Is there any law saying that somebody who derives their income through spreadbetting and therefore does not have a job could not sign on?

Yes as benefits are means tested. You may not pay tax on the profit but you cannot claim benefits stating that you have no source of income. The idea that tax payers should pay for an additional income when one is already there is greed beyond belief.

Leaving the ethics a side, I think you can register as an unemployed and benefit from the some programs run for the unemployed people. Like learning new skill for free (free for you, paid by the tax payer.) You can't claim any financial help because it is means tested.

Why would you want to claim £20 a week if you're raking in millions? You do realise you'll have to park your Lamborghini outside the job centre and the petrol costs and parking costs would likely exceed the £20 you receive.

"millionaire on the doll? "

What's Barbie got to do with it?

Fred (I need my daily bread) Goodwin doesn't have a job at the moment AFAIK; can he sign on?
If so, I'm sure he will.

Did you know, in Italy, they do not have any state support for people who have lost their jobs etc?

I was shocked by that and am duly notifying "Professional Dolie Weekly" to mark that region as a BIG FAT AVOID !

If you are deriving your sole INCOME from trading then in the eyes of the tax man that is your job/income so is liable for income tax but not CGT so therefore you couldn't claim as you have a source of income.

This subject has been done to death on various forums and if you are only SPREADBETTING then your tax avoidance methods are many and various...

As he has officially "Retired" then he is not permitted to sign on as well but I agree that he probably would if he was allowed to.
