Making Indicators Visible to RadarScreen

Hi,

I've been trying out Tradestation/Radarscreen recently and although I can write indicators and add them to tradestation charts without problem, I cannot make them available to Radarscreen.
I've tried taking an existing indicator which I can see in the insert indicator dialog (F7 within Radarscreen), saved it to a new file within the powereditor and verified it successfully. This new indicator however does not show within the aforementioned insert indicator dialog. Am I missing something obvious, I've set the applications its 'available to' to be 'Chart Analysis' which is the only option in the 'Properties' dialog associated with the indicator within Powereditor.

Any ideas anybody?

Cheers

Chris

The existing indicator you rename must already be able to work in Radar.

Hi Glen,

Yes, I choose an indicator I could see in the insert list (52 Week high-Low) saved the easylanguage code of this indicator to a new name, verified it and this new name does show in the F7 insert indicator dialog in the context of a radascreen (even after shutting down tradestation and restarting). However it does show in the F7 insert indicator in the context of a chart..

Anybody?

Sorry typo it should have read "Not show"

When you open the indicator in easylanguage and you click on File:/Properties do you get the screen that is as attached showing which applications you can make it available in ?

Hello Paul,

Thanks for your reply. Looking at the Properties->Applications tab you describe I only see Chart Analysis (which is checked). When I installed I chose not to install Optionstation, but Radarscreen is there and I have in the past included Grey1's indicators which do appear available to Radascreen. Also if I look at the properties of other indicators which are supplied with tradestation (e.g. 52 Week HIgh-Low), the properties page only shows Chart Analysis and this I can also add to Radarscreen, in fact the 52 Week High-Low indicators Chart Analysis checkbox was unchecked.

Other than this my Tradestation/Radascreen/Metaserver/IB setup is running well and without problems so I'm loathe to re-install!

Thanks,

Chris

Are you saying that the option for Radarscreen is not available when you look at the properties ?

Paul, yes that is correct., I'm using ProSuite 2000i which I've patched up to service pack 5 , (build 5.00.0822).

Chris

If that option is not available then you will not be able to get certain indicators visible in Radarscreen. I had a similar issue a while back until I changed settings on a reinstall.

Hi Chris.
Instead of using F7 (which I assume is a Function key to insert an indicator - and which incidentally does nothing in my TS) have you tried using the menu bar ?
i.e. Insert - Indicator.
It works ok for me. It's the only way I can create indicators for Radar (by renaming existing ones, replacing the code with new, and verifying). As with you, all indicators on my system only show a tick box for Chart analysis.

Perhaps its the way I set TS up although I don't recall many (any?) choices.
I'll be re-installing soon on a new PC so on the lookout for any such choices.
TS2000i Prosuite appears to me to have many idiosyncracies and inconsistencies like this which can be quite frustrating.

Thanks Glenn and Paul,

I think given what you both have said, I will reinstall and this time do the whole thing i.e. include optionstation. Glenn, I have tried using the menu option which gives the same dialog as pressing F7. It is odd F7 is missing from your installation, it will only work if you have either a chart or radarscreen selected.

Thanks again for your replies

Glenn, Paul,

Just an update, I've re-installed and included Optionstation this time, chose the DBC Online subserver option (recommended by Metaserver) and then patched up to the final version (applied service pack 4b update, then service pack 4c, finally service pack 5). After all this, its behaviour was the same as before, i.e. the applications list on the properties page on any script only ever includes 'Chart Analysis' and the supplied TS radascreen indicators have the 'Chart Analysis' option unchecked. I am presuming from this that the property page doesnt show the radarscreen option but it would have been checked had it been displayed as the indicator is available in radascreen. Following Glenn's advice I tried taking an existing indicator (visible to radascreen) and using 'Save As', saved it under another name, edited the Easylanguage for this new copy, verified and found this copy was visible to Radascreen, bingo, I'm working again. Thanks for the info which has got me working again. Paul's experience suggests that there is still an installation option which might make it work correctly. The only other option I remember was a choice to drop implied volatility from the historybank updates to improve performance. I chose to drop this for no other reason than I was not going to use historybank and the historical data on the cd I dont install.

Once again thanks and Paul if you ever remember what you did differenly on that last install please let us know.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris,

I cannot quite remember what I did on a reinstall :(

However, can you post some screenshots as that may help ?

Chris
Glad it's working for you now.
In fact that way of doing it came (to me) from Kako and Samtron - so thanks to go to them :)
Some time in the next week or so I expect to be doing an install so I'll make note of all the steps and choices where options are available and if there's anything worthwhile to post, I will.
