It's Sound - but not as we know it...

SONY VGN AR41S. Vista (no choice…) Managed to disable the integral speakers while setting up a bluetooth headset connection. Have spent a few hours since trying to get the speakers to work again!!!

Nothing coming through now on speakers, bluetooth or external (wired) headphones socket.

Uninstalled drivers and disabled devices. Rebooted. Automatically found the devices re-installed and enabled. Some progress.

Control Panel – Sound - Sounds tab. Can’t get any sounds from testing the basic windows stuff (asterix, critical stop etc). BUT…when I click on the speakers icon and then click on the ‘enhancements’ tab – I can get sounds on tests for those elements (stereo balance, bass enahancement etc.).

So, the speakers ‘work’ but only there. No apps generated sound, or webs based sound checks coming through on any channels.

Short of sending this piece of kit back, anyone have any suggestions?

Have you checked

1. speakers are not muted
2. correct hw selected for play back/sound rec & default device etc... (Blue-tooth may have replaced your speakers).

I'm still on XP so not much help with Vista I'm afraid. Other than flurry of interest and my premium shrink wrapped copy sitting on my shelf no further progress.

Hi Tony

Check that you have your speakers set as your default playback device,

Control Panel - Sound - Playback Tab - You should have a green circle with a white tick in over the speakers icon (if not right click on the speakers icon and select 'set as default device').

I am sure you have already checked this anyway.

....Disable Blutooth....

...On keyboard you have Fn button which is blue in colour.....

.....Press that and keep pressed then at top you have sound buttons with '+' and '-'

.....Press '+' button to make sure that harware volume is set at max.

....also make sure that you use same harware for Sound and Voice...

The problem seems to have gone away now. All by itself. Nothing whatsoever to do with the suggestion from TMM to set speakers as default. Absolutely not.

Tch! I bet there there are some real knob-heads out there that wouldn't have thought to have checked that first. I dunno, glad I'm not one of them....
