are there traders who just trade a stock index ? its possible/good to do that ?

Indexes have a really good vol do index traders trade just the index or 80% the index ?

define index...do you mean the Dow jones , Nikkei etc etc ?

yes stock indexes futures in general but specially one contract most of the time like S&Ps
