Hi

How do I get TradeStation?? tradestation.com looks good - free - but you have to open a trading account and I already have an account with another broker.

Can I just get a copy and sign up for a data provider? Would that mean buying one or can I lease it.

Many Thanks

YF, is your existing broker giving you good enough fee's to justify keeping them and paying full whack for TS v8?

Tradestation now have a UK office by the way, in case you didnt spot it: http://www.tradestation.co.uk/

IMO, dont bother with TradeStation 2000i as you can buy MultiCharts, which is basically a rebadged TS2000i with lots of improved features and bugfixes for $399

Unfortunately it does not appear to have a Radarscreen feature

That sounds like an irresistable deal to me! So while MulitCharts is a better/more affordable TradeStation 2000i, on the other hand, how does MultiCharts compare with TradeStation 8? Is there any comparison that can be made between the two, or are MultiCharts/TradeStation 2000i completely different beasts to TradeStation 8? I am, of course, concerned with the power and the extensibility of the charting platform, and the indicators available to each. I understand that TradeStation 8 is an on-line charting and trading platform, while MultiCharts/TradeStation 2000i are stand-alone applications.

Specifically, could I use John Carter & Hubert Senter's indicators - which were developed for TradeStation 8 and eSignal - on MultiCharts?

Thanks in advance.

I think TS8 has significant differences from MultiCharts - as to whether something will work on MC that was designed for TSv8 - I dont know, it probably will but you'd be best to download the free evaluation version of MC and try before you buy.

Thanks Arbitrageur.

You appear to be speaking as someone who's familiar with both. Perhaps you've owned or trialled them both, and as a result have gained a good understanding of the strengths/limitations/incompatibilities of both platforms. Would you mind sharing with us what you believe those differences to be? Thanks again.

Metatrader data feed

I am interested in the solution for Meta trader 3.83 or Meta Trader 4.0 to TS 2000i or TS 8.0 or Multicharts - providing forex real time and historical data feed.

And what are the fees - or will I have to trade thru their boker - Gain. I have a broker I want to keep.

Thank you

I have TS8.1 and a futures brokerage account. I don't trade from the brokerage account, but just got it so i can get TS for $100 pm rather than $200.
You have to pay in $5000 to open a futures brokerage account, and then to continue to get TS for $100 per month, you need to maintain $2500+ in the account.

TS8.1 will plot constant tick, constant volume but not momentum bars - you would have to go into easy language to sort that one out.
I wouldn't have thought it would be that complicated personally but sometimes the "easiest things " can be monsters.
I CAN see the 'phantom bars' being a complete nightmare though!
Someone somewhere WILL solve it though that I guarantee!!

I have used both esignal and TS ( I now only use TS) - esignal is dead simple, user friendly and a dream to operate.
TS is great but way less user friendly, however easy language and automation are its big advantages.
Automation is a whole subject in itself though - don't for a minute think you will get your strategy and just leave it running in the corner of the room.
I have just visited a phd in maths who wrote(!!) his own software to solve the automation problems - he has been offered 150k for the programme and turned it down!!
That gives you some idea of the intricacies of automation.
Happy Xmas.

Quick one for anyone who has TradeStation

can it plot Momentum bars, Constant Tick bars and Constant Volume bars
as described here . . .
http://www.ensignsoftware.com/tips/tradingtips49.htm

I currently use eSignal which can plot the latter two, but now that TS has a link into FuturesBetting I want to investigate auto-trading.

True but are you also aware that Tradestation (where has this product been all my life) is available for free if you make a certain number of trades per month.. and its not as much as you may think..
In any case.. $90 per month is easily a bargain when you consider what this platform is capable of doing to help you remove emotion and pick a strategy and trade only that strategy... thats 80% of the battle IMO

not with full TS EasyLanguage support you can't

OK.. now youve got me calling my contact thier for clarification...hidden charges then I presume....
hmmm...Ill come back to you on this..

sorry Paulds11, I was replying to another posters old post.

TS v8 is FREE if you do a nominal number of trades each month to qualify for the discount - though you still have to pay for exchange fee's for your data.

Ts8

TS8 is without parallel IMHO - it has its problems of course - name trading software that doesn't but on the whole you get a pretty good package and if you use their brokerage the only costs are the exchange fees which are impossible to miss anyway.

The fact that you can write your own strategy and backtest it without being a programmer could save you thousands.
I have not yet found a publicy available system that worked consistently - and I have been trading full time for 4 years. A lot look good right up until you get into the detail.
I might add before I get a ton of replies about successful systems that I am talking intraday and I am talking reliable and consistent.
:cheesy:

You can get tradestation brokerage platform for free if you trade 10 round turns and direct your stategy based orders to any broker using ninja trader.

i happen to know that Advantage futures offer much lower round turn commissions

like onthe emini s&p i pay 4.32 a round turn THAT is compared to Tradestaiton 4.72 a roundturn

that is a 0.40 cents per round turn when your trading 2500 round turns a month that is $1000 dollar savings.
