how can you manipulate the economy (positively)? would i have to build a bunch of small companies and take allot of big companies clients?

There are several 'transition towns' that I know of, but admit I haven't looked a great deal into which use their own currency. One town is in Germany, another in Devon and another in Scotland though I cannot remember exactly where. The emphasis of these towns are behind becomming self sustaining and it would be interesting to see what this would do to currency were it to become more popular/successful/worthwhile?

There is a small town here in the US, i believe its in South Carolina where they are a communist community. SO far it is working for them.
