Hard Disk Security

My computer is becoming a monster. It is loaded with so much software, passwords, security codes etc that, if I have a disk failure, it will take me days to reinstate everything even if it is possible to do so. Eg, if a software supplier goes out of business and the software has been activated by an internet code. I have at least 1 such piece of software.

My plan, if it can be done, is to get a 200 gig drive and make a duplicate of my existing drive (O/S and everyting) so in the event of failure I can just boot up from my duplicate drive as though nothing had happened.

Is this possible?

If so, what software do I need?

Thanks in advance to those who know about these things!

The July copy of PCPlus mag give Acronis TrueImage 8 (from acronis.com) top award for imaging software and it supports incremental back-ups to save time.
