Getting started trading CFD's; which broker?

Hi,

I know this question is probably asked several times a day, but I'll take a stab at asking again.

I'm just getting started with trading, and really like CFD's. I would appreciate any recommendations for an online CFG trading account provider.

I've had a look at GNI, Capital Spreads etc. and they seem like good possibilities. The opening £5k deposit with GNI is a bit hefty (for me), but do-able.

Any other recommendations.

IG Markets is a good choice,
best price-performance ratio, zero deposit requirements, lots of trading tools, smart trading platform,
no cold calling etc.

Hi Paul,

I can only speak from my own experience of those I have used, but I have been using CFDs to trading for a couple of years now and I found IG Markets to be the best platform I have used and continue to do so. I have never looked at the GNI platform so couldn’t give you a comparison I’m afraid but the £5k seems a bit steep if you are just starting out.

I have also used the CMC platform which again is nice but I really wanted a provider that offers DMA as I trade equities mainly and CMC didn’t offer that (not sure if this has now changed). So for me IG Markets ticks all the boxes, although having said that I have recently started using a smaller firm called Accendo Markets that use the similar platform like IG but offer a bit more in terms of someone to speak to about the markets (a dedicated trader is how I think they sell it), which I have found helpful at time too.

I can’t remember off hand if CMC have a minimum, I don’t think they do but don’t take that as gospel, however the other two guys do not have a minimum to start trading, (Accendo require £500 to get their research though) which could be better if you are just starting out.

Can someone please tell me what kind of trading account you can get and what the main differences are in layman terms? Am coming across all these different sites but the terminology really goes over my head!!

Would be greatly appreciated; the key differences between CFD, Spread betting accounts (are there any more account types out there?!
