I have read in several places that gaps have to be filled in at some stage, so if share close at 400p opens at 300p next day, on the way up is 300- 400p uncharted area and does it clear that region with ease ??

Yes gaps generally get filled up and down....wether it's with ease or not is another matter. There is one important exception and that is an "Island reversal" at a peak in price, generally after a steep rise. See attached chart...
