First time trader, need advice.

I need advice on which broker is best to start with. I've seen several posts and some brokers are just pure scams from what I've read. I am wondering which has the better reputation? I live in the United States and a broker that is incorporated in..say..India ( for example) might not be a good idea. The account I will be starting with is a mini account, sub $1,000 US Dollars.

forgot to mention, i will be trading forex.

Well in theory it's best to stick to a US based NFA registered broker, certainly you should avoid anything that is located offshore. Having said that even an NFA broker will rip you off. Just google 'forex broker fined' for plenty of examples.
 
and try to find one that has some size and history and is affiliated to a larger banking group ?
