Essential of Trading stretagy ...?

Can somebody please tell me and suggest me that ..........What is the essential of the trading strategy ...

buy high/sell higher, sell low/buy lower i reckon sums it up.

If I could only have one single essential rule - keep the loss on any losing trade as small as possible.

to ensure winnings are 'substantially' larger than losses.

how about this one - to devise a trading system with positive expectancy within realistic parameters (namely expected drawdown not to exceed 50 pct)
