Dow Jones volume calculation

The intraday volume data series for $INDU differs from when I add up the volume of the constituent stocks. Does anyone know if the index has a weighted calculation for the volume?

I'm using eSignal as my datafeed.

Cant remember if its weighted or not - I dont think so. This question was asked on the boards a few months back, so it might be worth doing a search for it.

One thing I can tell you for certain is that if you're planning to use Volume as an analytical tool for trading the Dow, I wouldnt waste your time : its still not enough to use it effectively imo, when compared to something like the Spoos.
