This thread is for anyone who wants to post daytrades - papertrades or live trades - for the YM Mini-Dow Futures.

I am just starting to daytrade the YM with demo account - and will go live when I am happy with results.

Regards,

CYOF

I trade the YM. I use candlestick charts reading. I use engulfments and double tops/bottoms signals. I scalp 3 tics per trade. Works like a charm for me...oh, on the 3 minute chart. Good luck...

Hi Conor,

Are you papertrading or live trading?

Double tops & bottoms + engulfments can give good entry signals.

3 Ticks seems like a small profit target - taking commissions and initial stop loss risk into consideration.

We can start posting charts for the trades as it will make it much easier to understand what we are trying to explain.

Hopefully we can learn from each others' posts?

I see that the CME has just bought out CBOT. It will be interesting to see whether YM volumes & liquidity benefit or suffer.

YM Trading...

I am getting ready to go live. If you can't trade in demo...you can't trade live. I would love to post my charts but I have no idea how to do that. I am not a techno geek. Sorry...but I will try to figure it out. I have noticed tho, that alot of my trades do not show up later. I am a scalper and the trades come and go so quick! 3 tics is small profit...but I'm a scalper and that's what we do =>
Thx for writing! Later!

I also trade the YM and ER2.. what I like about the YM and ER2 you can go long on the bid, with out price going through, not like ES there so much volume with ES its hard to buy the Bid unless the price trades through it...I use 5 min charts and 15min for the YM its good for 25 to 30 lots anything over that you may get part fills. the same with ER2, but you get more for you buck trading the ER2 as it moves in 10tenths at $10 a point with around $5 R/T/ YM is $5 a point and around $5 R/T....YM is smother to trade over ER2 though.

Conor,

To upload your screen-shots - the following is one way:

1) Download the following free programme and set up to capture GIF images

http://www.gadwin.com/download/

2) In the setup, select your Source Tab and select "Rectangular Area"

3) In the setup, select the "Destination Tab" and tick the "Copy captured area to file" box. Then and make sure the "Auto Name" box is not ticked - this way you can name your saved image as you like. In the bottom on the same window, select your "Capture Directory" -for this I suggest that you set up a "Printscreen Files" folder in your "My Documents" folder, and use this to save all of your Printscreen images.

4) Under "Preferences" select the "Hotkey" that you want to use to activate the Printscreen window.

5) Hit your Hotkey combination - select rectangular area of screen - and name new file as required.

Once your file is saved to your "Printscreen Files" folder, you can then upload the image when you posting on the T2W site using the "Manage Attachments" section under this text box - see my example below.

Let me know if you get stuck - I would prefer to do this on the CTM site - as it will be there for new members to reference if they have the same problem.

Hey guys good thread. CYOF which broker are you demo trading YM through. Also does anone know what program is the best for doing a little backtesting on YM. Is Prorealtime any good.

Cheers

Theres some guys on another forum who trade support, resistance breakouts on e mini who do quite well. Pre define your lines then play the breakout for 2 points. pretty simple really and works well. you might be able to do the the dow with something similar.

Millsy

Interactive Brokers - but you need to have an account with them to papertrade.

In relation to backtesting - I personally don't think much of it - I prefer to test my setups for a few weeks with live data until I see some consistency. If it works, use it until it stops working, and then make some adjustments until it works again - this is where the papertrading is very useful.

I also tend to trade S&R and Trendline breaks, as described by millsy500, with additional setups for supporting a high probability trading decision.

what and where is this CTM forum? I'm so confused! I think I found it tho...is it in psychology area? btw...I've started trading ym live now...1st day...2 bad/2 good, ended up ahead so I quit for the day! Will be real interested to see what my real costs are going to be. (commisssions, etc...)

Sorry about the confusion connor - the CTM forum was deleted as it was not the best way to go for what I wanted to try out.

I have started to post in the journal section - and there is also a YM Journal over there if you want to have a look at it.

Very busy at the moment - will speak with you later.

Hi conor,

I will be starting to trade the YM with real $ shortly - have to transfer some funds in first.

As I am limited with data feeds, etc, etc, I am going to be trying out a simple VWMA crossover with either a tick chart or a min chart - more than likely a tick chart.

This will require allowing some room for wiggles - it will not be quick scalps - so the initial size will be only one contract.

Why don't you consider starting a journal in the section and post your trades there - you will get feedback from other traders - but do be aware that you will also be asked some though questions that will make you stop and think about what you are doing - this can only be good - and if you get the not so nice posts just ignore them and carry on - remember, it is your journal for you to post your trades in.

Regards,

Apologies - I forgot to mention that I will also post to this thread as well - I don't like the idea of using a journal for general discussion on daytrading the YM.

I will re-post my current layout tomorrow and start from there.

Regards,

Can I join the forum?

Hello! I am a new to Trade to Win as well as to trading. I am very interested in day trading the eminis and have done a bit of it but would love to learn from other peoples experience. Is there a way that I can have access to the CTM forum?

THank you!!

Hi Guys,

I have recently set up a private forum called CTM - Conventional Trading Methods.

Conor, you already have access to the CTM forum as I included you in the original set up by the T2W team.

Laptop1, if you want to join please send the request from your CP panel - you will find the private forums available under your "Group Membership" section on the bottom left of your control panel.

Read the intro once you have access - I think it explains things clearly - if not just PM me.

New sub-forums are currently requested from the T2W team.

The main goal is to learn from each other by posting screen-shots for each others trades, with each Individual Trader going into as much detail as they so desire - I have posted some samples in relation to the style I will be using.

Regards,
