did anyone see derren browns original explanation for how he predicted the national lottery numbers aired on friday? what were your thoughts?

I agree total nonsense. The only time I would believe that he has predicted lottery numbers before the event is if he says what they are before the draw has taken place. None of this rubbish about not being allowed to because of contracts etc

It was comical though :)

DB is normally so good. but this time, I thought the explanation program on Friday left me nonethewiser.
wasted an hour hoping he would explain all.

that bit about 24 people choosing numbers, and he averaging them out was illogical, as surely the averaged number would have been ((1 + 49) / 2= 25), plus or minus a bit.
(anyway, if that logic were true, the lottery would be won and shared by a much larger number of people, as people would all hope for their numbers, but the collective unconscious would result in the most common numbers being chosen. no?)

not sure if the bit about the "knife was never under the cup" bit, and how we respond to perceptions of threat made any sense in context to lotto.

anyway, why didnt he simply go buy the winning ticket, and donate the monies??
that would have been mega-magic.

he is usually so engaging.

I get the knife thing, if you put put people under pressure they revert to certain traits eg unlucky 13 or lucky 7 etc but the thing with the Lotto was nonsense, the odds of a group of 24 people choosing numbers between 1 and 49 and averaging a 2 would probably be the same as the odds of picking the 6 lotto numbers.

If the average was 2 then this must mean that over half of them chose 1 for that number and most of the others chose less than 10......what a load of old .................

i agree i think he probably did his magic thing in the 20 or so seconds he had between the numbers being known and him turning round the holder of the tube and balls, but does anyone have any thoughts on a collective consciousness or of a person being affected in some way by people somewhere else in the world that he has no contact with (including not seeing buying or selling they may be putting into a market)?

That Darren chap is a load of tosh.

Never found anything he did remotely entertaining or mysterious.

anyone remember seeing the trailers for the Friday show after he did the deed on the Wednesday?

if you did (and you care), when he held up the snowflake....that was a clue to how it was done...

I thought his horse race scam (and explanation) on a previous show was pretty good.

I saw his lottery stunt, but not the explanation show on Friday. Is it available on a facility similar to BBC's iPlayer?

On the subject of collective consiousness. Check out the Kentucky Lottery Pick Three winning numbers for Sept 7th,they were 555. One month later to the date, Oct 7th, they were 666. That being said, if you try to play 777, the Kentucky lottery has blocked those numbers for now. They can block any numbers that they wish.

the Kentucky lottery has blocked those numbers for now. They can block any numbers that they wish.

How ridiculous the chance that they would come up (assuming a fair game) is the same as for any other combination.
