Anyone see that lotterry bull**** by Derren Brown - Would have had some sort of validity if he'd actually shown SOMEONE the numbers before the lottery was announced...
Then i watched 'How i did it' which was more bull****... If them people had actually got the numbers correct, surely he would have bought a ticket? AND surely he would of shown them the numbers, otherwise he was just using them to lie about the real facts;
Which was that a printer came out the wall; Invisible to the camera and printed the numbers on the balls and then went back in and re-placed by a brick....

Such a bad actor as well when the numbers came up...

That's the whole point - it was a TRICK.

I hate people who slag off magicians (being quite an accomplished one myself). I have performed magic at an amateur level for many years, and the worst type of spectator is just like yourself Gladiator.

"The card's up your sleeve" , "that coin's in your pocket" etc etc ....

The point of magic is to appreciate (in Derren's case) that yes, the numbers were put onto the balls after the draw but that it took some skill in managing to do this and thus create the ILLUSION that he'd predicted the lottery.

Admittedly, his explanation was a load of tosh, but Derren Brown has always done his "explanations" this way. Most of the time he explains a trick, he gives a little clue somewhere along the way. (although perhaps not the case here with the lottery). But the whole purpose is to leave the audience guessing.

You either fall into 2 camps when watching magic. The first being the person like myself, who appreciates the skill, practice and dedication it takes to perform magic and get it right. (although I admit this wasn't one of his best illusions).

The second is like yourself - expecting "real" magic to happen, and then picking apart the trick if you perceive otherwise. If you don't like it, DON'T WATCH IT ! Leave it for those who want to marvel at it and enjoy it.

I have met Derren Brown on a couple of occasions, and he is a thoroughly nice bloke - far from the "prick" that you claim.

Good friend of mine is a magician-Benjamin Earl (wasn't his name at school tho) Got lots of vids on youtube and even has a DVD out. Last I heard he was possibly having his own show commissioned. Chose a clip on youtube at random. I dont know anything about cards etc but im told by those that do that he's a bit good.

You mean it was a trick ! I thought that method of averaging everyone's opinion actually worked. I've got all my friends and family giving me predictions for share prices tomorrow and I'm busy averaging them out here !

Funny thing is we actually tried the averaging method on Saturday's lottery draw and got 2 numbers up which is the best we've done in a long time.
 
I agree. He is a prick. Hope he's not taking any license payer money to show his rubbish "TV camera tricks".
 
I've heard of Benjamin Earl - he is very good indeed. And that trick you attached from youtube is very well executed. In fact Derren Brown started off with card magic and then went onto get his first tv show, so maybe Benjamin Earl is one to watch out for ....

Yet he made more $$$ from that stunt than you will make all year and he can enjoy a class of punani that you only dream of.

Not punani in the case of Derren Brown (being that he's gay), but you make a fair point
 
Yeah Halotrader, best of luck to the guy you call a prick, he's worth what people pay to see him, even if most of us think the earnings of footballers, the Wonathan Wosses of the world (self paying bankers excluded) are obscene.
It's called the tradesman being worthy of his hire aka capitalism.
If you aren't a capitalist what is anyone doing on this BB.........

Agree with Paulie, don't know why you think he is a prick.

He seems pretty smart, he mixes magic, suggestion and psychology and makes millions doing it. I usually find his shows entertaining or at least interesting. Better than most of the crap on tv. Also seems pretty talented at other things.

Of course it was just a trick, and most magicians don't reveal how they do their tricks. That's part of what they do! He did give a subtle clue at the end of how he did it though. And the averaging of numbers and all that was of course to confuse those 24 people, so that they didn't even know what numbers they had 'chosen'. It was a good trick. Then again it is true that the lottery draw isn't truly random...

The bit about the coin tossing was also interesting. Nothing to do with there being a bunch of people on one side against one on the other, just basic probability, but still shows you how two things which seem equally likely are in fact far from that.

Like me telling you all now that i predicted the lottery too but i didn't write it down or tell anyone or buy a ticket.

Its not clever, it wasn't 'amazing' or even interesting ...

It was just like, stop lieing.

He didn't actually do anything; He showed some lottery numbers after the lottery came out... Its not exactly a trick, just plain bull****.

Its not like 'WOW HOW DID HE DO THAT???!?!' Its more like 'Yeahhhhh sureeee nice oneee'

The balls were there for us all to see. Just facing the other way round. On live television.

I admit it's not one of his best tricks, but it was still a trick.

So how did he do it then ?

Glad to see the title of this thread was ammended. Use of words such as p***k demeans sites like T2W, and makes it indistinguishable from the mountains of s***e which litter the internet.

Anonymous Mr Nobody to announces "Derren Brown is p***k", and is quickly joined by x other Mr.Nobodies.

Let's face it. Derren Brown is one very smart and successful person. Smarter than I am, and therefore smarter than those who spout abuse before engaging their brains.
