Allcon,

Just seen city index and the spreads they offer on equity and forex? 1 pip on dow/ftse and also eurusd and 2pips gdpusd? Seems the bext around bar none, they also accept scalpers and happy to have very short time trades, have used them awhile ago and enjoyed the platform but the spreads were always too big, great now? Anyone using them at the moment and would like to comment?

Yep, a few years ago they were terrible for both spreads and customer service, but they've been transformed.

Yes it is amazing they have been able to keep the 1 point spread on the Dow for quite a while now. It all comes down to execution, and it is still exellent according to some members posting on this forum. I will have to join them very soon to find out personaly how well they are performing in live trading.

I trade the Dow and FTSE with them most days.

The platform quotes you a buy and sell price and nearly every time I trade it goes thru it is very very rare for me not to get instant execution.

I have had the odd problem with the platform when the market is moving very fast but it is very rare these days infact can't remember the last time it happened.

with a 1 point dow and ftse spread see no reason to trade anywhere else .Except maybe when the market is moving really fast.

BTW Used to trade with cmc but they have wider spreads on the Dow and I don't like the new platform.

Thanks, worth throwing a bit of money into the account and any issues can pull out but at 1pip for a lot of the trades I do will save me a fortune. They also seem to be happy with scalpers so who knows, will give them a shot.

... City also has funny TV ads, rather than the pretentious carp served up by other SBs.

Would just amend that if I was trading at a time when the market was moving really fast then that is a time when I might consider trading with someone else.

Hi Tim3.

How much do you bet per point?

Hi Brasil
I have traded between £1 and £10 on the Dow.

However most of my trades are currently at the lower end of that scale.

For some reason when I crank it up I come unstuck(something I am working on) but thats nothing to do with city :cheesy:

I didn't suggest listening to them all day. On balance, my brain is more under threat from other SB ads, especially the Worldspreads one.

I think the problem is media companies like Bloomberg do not seem to be able to get anyone other than Spread Betting providers to advertise and run 3/4 of their ads back to back which is quite appauling. If I was working for one of those companies I do feel I would complain about this.

However I do like the Turkish Airlines advert :cheesy:

"somethings going on at worldspreads and its a bit of a game changer" that add is enough to put me off them for life!!!

City index add is simple but funny.

World Spreads advert is the worst, I have been using City Index for a while and had no problems, but not traded above £5 a pip yet.

I have been with city just under a year now and other than the very occasional glitch the last of which may have been down to something at my end they have been superb with really fast execution and the spread on the Dow at 1 point market hours right up to 21.15 uk is superb.

Last week I was a bit miffed to see that one of my stops had been slipped by 2pt, when the market was hardly moving and there was no justification. However, watching for similar tricks next day they actually filled an FX position with 4pips positive slippage, to my knowledge the first time that's ever happened with any SB I've used in nearly ten years.

Can't complain if that is the case, i've not yet been privy to a positive slippage and you are probably right that you are a rare circumstance! Anyone else experienced positive slippage?

Personally I think City/Fins is the best spread bet broker right now. I used to do 50/50 Fins/IG, now it's more like 90/10 to Fins (same prices company as City). I only use IG for Grains because their bid-offer is so much more competetive.

I have to agree with the above posts, Cityindex have surprise me with good execution and no problem with slippage. I have not had many "price no longer valid", just a few rejected trades and that is to be expected. They have so far kept their promise to keep the 1 point spread on the Dow and that is quite impressive stuff. Simple clean and fast platform, I like it very much. They do not however have a user predefine stop loss in points, and that keeps me for giving them the highest ranking.
