Can you use a 48" monitor and keep the resolution size as per computer?

Hi All,

Have a question regarding monitors? I use metatrader for my graphs in trading crude oil and wondered if it is possible to set up a large 48" monitor that will have the same resolution as say 4 monitors?

i.e. is it possible to keep the exact size and resolution that you see on your computer on your large screen, which would enable you to set up the large monitor almost like a multi monitor set up?

When I connect up the extra monitor and transfer windows from my computer I want them to stay in the exact same size and resolution, which would allow me if for instance the extra monitor had a square area x4 of my computer screen It could virtually act as a quad monitor set up?

The answer is yes and no. You'll have to change the resolution for your 48" monitor/tv through windows. You'll need a graphics card that allows you to use dual monitors or a laptop with either an hdmi or an svga (d-sub) port. Once you've connected your 48" monitor to your graphics card right click on your desktop and go to screen resolution option near the bottom. If your using Windows 7 it tends to find the optimal resolution on its own mine is set to 1366x768, click on detect and it will detect your second monitor, from here you can play around with the resolution on your 48" until you get the optimal settings, should take about 2 minutes in total!

I use my laptop as one screen for surfing the web (euphamism for porn) and my 42" lcd tv as a monitor for MT4 and looks fantastic, sometimes I don't need porn if there is a nice double top forming that's all I need

Hmmm that's a good point, mine is an LCD tv but I just took it for granted that a monitor would work in much the same way, the thing is you're changing the resolution through windows and not on the tv/monitor itself so in principle should work exactly the same yeah.

I've got my laptop connected to my tv with hdmi, it means windows finds my tv automatically as a secondary monitor and sets everything up for me, I had to play about with the resolution slightly in the windows settings but this takes about 2 mins, not bad when you see Eur/Usd 42" high

the answer is no, the resolution for LCD TVs are always crap because you are supposed to be sitting heaps far away from them. I think the biggest lcd monitor out atm is a dell 32inch. anything above that would be pretty much custom made, but im sure you could get it. Crucial thing to remember, its not the size you want, its the resolution

they have 1080 horiz resolution
but you still have to look at the monitor from a distance.

I can vouch for a 37" sony bravia 1080p - pixel perfect, wouldn't change it for the world.
TBH though if you have a lot of different feeds, window resizing is going to be a PITA.
Best to use multis then.

I use above 37" LCD TV as primary with 19" LG secondary, does what I need
I run the 37" on 1280x720 via ATI catalyst drivers.
Can be resized to pixel perfect 1920x1080 no problem.
