Hello All,

Just interested in knowing whether anyone on here uses Amibroker? If so, and assuming there's enough interest, maybe we can create another dedicated thread to discuss queries / answer questions etc.

I use it and would appreciate a forum - but as will most other things I'd be there asking more questions than I can answer.

I'm happy to set up a sub-forum especially for the software if there's sufficient threads to warrant it. In the case of amibroker probably best to keep the discussion on a single thread for now until there's sufficient participation to warrant something more substantial. What you'll find is that the more threads there are about a given topic the more people will be able to find it in the search engines, and the more people are attracted to it to discuss it, and so forth...

Yes it would be nice to have one which is user friendly in both senses.

Any newbie to the Amibroker forum on Yahoo will know exactly what I mean.

I feel Amibroker is partly a misnomer when it comes to getting to grips with AFL. It is a superb bit of kit for little dosh and does most things apart from make a nice cuppa.

MT4 is good too (especially when the rumpled one gets going) but the data variety available is limited.

So let's make an Amicable Amibroker arcade.

I'm a newbie to AB myself, so I'm definately full of questions as well!!

But its Nice to hear that there are some interest with creating a dedicated thread :D

Hopefully this will become an active thread in due course....................

Hi All,

For all those who use Amibroker, can I ask whether anyone uses it for System Development or is it only used as a charting piece of software?

I use AB for simple charting. Having used it for last two years , I am able to modify and write some AFL.s too. Occasionally I use it for back testing.
I find it better than Metastock . With Bar Replay we can simulate market conditions also like ENSIGN.

I am interested in learning AB (ANALYSIS) functions. Can anyone teach me online via. Skype/Teamviewer.

I only need aboutr 2 hours help and willing to pay.

Email - [email protected], if you can.

Willing to pay via. ELANCE or once the teaching is completed. Need some help with AFL as well.

Thanks

AMiBroker is a fine program. Not that hard to figure. Just take some coed and look at it and start changing the code. You can figure it out. The code is similar to C+, C++...

In using AmiBroker I test different approaches to see how they work on a set of candidates. To try to normalize the individual stocks, I convert price and volume to a stochastic. Usually I run against IBD's Top Fifty. After optimizing I generally favor ranking the results by CAR/MaxDD. Then If the results look fruitful, I run a two month train, one month walk forward over the past two years.
I like the two month training one month apply as that uses tighter parameters than a year's backfitting.

Thanks to all, since I'm new to Amibrokers I don't have any clue about the whole thing and this thread would help me out.

Anyone using Amibroker with interactive brokers would be very interested to here from.

Also if they are using it on a mac and what supporting software they are using to support the windows based software?

No problems with IAB. Problems are rather on IB's side, slow backfill and throttling. As for mac you can use a virtual machine.

Not sure what you mean here.

Second that. AFL is as simple as Easy Language but many times more powerful.
Also you are not limited to AFL if you don't want to use it. You can program in C/C++/.NET also.
