Whats the average salary for an average trader at any of reputable prop firms?, aka optiver, tibra, jane street etc...

1 hundred million dollars.

Probably somewhere between this (Zimbabwean Dollars) and this (US Dollars).

Seriously though, you can't expect to get a useful answer here - the distribution of incomes is so wide that "average" is pretty meaningless - kind of like the average professional footballer salary, if you include everyone from Ronaldo down to guys who play part time semi-professionally. Even if you knew the average, it wouldn't help you understand your potential earnings.

You'd have a much better chance of asking what kind of splits, limits, and fees are average, then trying to figure out how much you could make on that basis. Obviously this would depend on you being able to estimate you profitability in terms of ticks/week, but it would almost certainly give you a better idea than just finding out the average.

Also you have to take in account how long they've been there. First few months being negative to very low, after a few years a lot...?

Plus quite often the most seemingly profitable strategies sadly tend to blow you up in one afternoon...

Zilchio...

Most people don't get to the stage where they can pay themselves enough to live on.

But the for the lucky few the sky's the limit.

There is no average in this game - it's death or glory!

Do you have ambitions and a burning desire to be average ?

wat can i say, im a realist. just having a major interest in the markets doesnt really set me apart from any of the other traders here, as for trading ability ive just been practicing on a simulator, been averaging about 3-5% a day trading very few stocks, been thinking about trading as a career and just looking at potential average earnings there doesnt seem to be alot of info other than the odd millionaire 28 year old.

why not jsut trade personally for yourself? thats what most of us do, im sure theres people that jsut trade at home and make a killing

A prop traders salary is dependant on what they earn the firm.
Some prop firms offer a retainer of £5k per month for the first 3 months, then its a % of the profits.
This % is negotiated and is between 15 and 50 % of the profits on the value of the account minus desk fees/ commisions ect.

Form what i hear prop trading is not where you want to be if your a talented trader . There are more openings in other firms like wealth management firms and hedge funds.

I agree that prop isnt the best, but a decent prop trains you? whereas these funds hire only experienced traders?

You got it the wrong way round. If you are a talented trader then prop is the BEST place to be because you get 90%-100% of your profit plus enough size to blow up in a day.
If your just a mediocre then a banking/hedge fund type job would suit you better better because you get a salary to live on and dont have to worry about your mediocre returns for a living.

Right So hedge fund traders get less than proptraders of the same skill/ability/performance ?
I was lead to believe that prop traders are required to initially fund an account to start trading with the firm ?

No your missing the point. ON AVERAGE my guess would be that an average hedge fund trader takes home more than an average prop trader per year.
However if you had two very good traders of the same ability. The prop trader would take home more than the hedge fund trader.
Your impression about account funding is wrong. It depends on your circumstances and the firm you join.

I believe Optiver in Australia pays graduate traders 100k a year + 50k bonus.

Of course I might be wrong...though I think the numbers are fairly representative for Australia at least.

prop traders don't get paid, they get draws on future profits and bonus's are paid net of profits......
