Doesnt seem to be much discussion on Aussie Index despite a few aussies here from what i can see...

Anyone care to give their thoughts, what are you looking at, what are your expectations ?

:?:

What is your timeframe?

As one view: it will do what John Howard did - follow the Yanks. But with a little more or less overshoot as Aussie sentiment finally catches up with reality and stops expecting China to save everyone.

Hi mgergs - I have been meaning to look at the 200 charts for spreadbetting purposes. I regularly run intra-day positions on the FTSE100 base don the opening range, but if I am away for work or in a meeting at the office I often can't get in at the right time, whereas I may be able to open a position on the 200, during our night-time. Obviously, its possible to SB an index any time but I like to be able to see what local traders are actually doing during the session.

As far as I can tell, the market hours are 1000-1600 Sydney time, corresponding to 2300-0500 UK time (currently). Is this correct? Is this every day Monday to Friday?

Does the 200 have any significant characteristics that make it move or react at certain times during the trading session? What does it tend to do when Japan and the Hang Seng open?

Oops .. forgot about this thread,
nine it doesnt seem to follow the Yanks much anymore these days ... seems all over the place ..

tom - those hours are correct - and its a good point u make with correlation to Japan/Hang Seng, however i dont think i've really noticed anything it tends to do on those market openings..

Im looking to go long on the ASX when it retests the November lows, and bombs to 3200 / 3180

Almost there now...

9:50 to 16:30. And there is a an all night session, but hardly any volume or liquidity overnight.

the ASX trades from 10am to 4pm Sydney Time. the above is correct for IG markets and maybe a few other SB companies

The ASX may well trade from 1000 to 1600, but the SPI futures contract trades from 0950 to 1630 on the SNFE.

I've been daytrading this index for several months. It can be very predictable except for the day you decide to trade it ... if you know what I mean.
Here is a chart with fri's trade on it. I use buy the break of supp or resis as well as patterns divergence and break of trendlines. I seem to see too soon, am working on this. Only time for one trade Fri.
