:( Can anyone help me with AnalyzerXL?

I have just started out spreadbetting and was recommended to use AnalyzerXL, as the EOD data is free and it is very flexible. I have downloaded the TraderXL Package from the AnalyzerXL website, and have spent most of the week trying to get it to work. I can download tickers, in bulk or one at a time, but Im having problems with the TA indicators. If you put a parameter say in for Bollinger Bands and select the complete range of closing prices, it stops short from the current day by the number of cells selected in the parameter. I mean, I know that it works on past data as it is a lagging indicator, but it seems that the only way I can get this to work, is to manually type in the formula in the current days price cell and select the previous range prices according to the parameter, i.e. if parameter = 20, then select the last 20 cells.

As I am analysing many tickers, it seems a bit too cumbersome to do this for everyone.

Is there anybody out there that I can exchange views with and maybe show them my workings and see what sort of set up they have, i.e. recommend macros, refresh tips, charting, etc.

Help urgently needed!!
Regards
Pitbull

Pitbull,

I have recently purchased analyzer but haven't really used it yet. If I find any solutions, I will let you know...

Hi Pitbull,
Wondering how you are getting on with AnalyzerXL et al.
Are you still using it ?
Does it backtest well for you ?

Any info gratefully received.
Thx.

All,

FWIW, I think that analyzer XL may need array formulas entered as opposed to individual formulas. You highlight all relevant cells and type the formula in and then press ctrl shift and enter (i think). ook it up on excel help. I thk this may be your problem.

I am in the process of developing a backtest engine and would not recommend AnalyzerXL unless you have sufficient programming experience. If you want *which is all that AnalyzerXL is) an excel TA add-in, I know of one for free !!

Hi Gwenalt

yes, I still use it, but still have problems with auto macros. Havwe got used to it now. Problem before was how it arranged the data, "from top to bottom = oldest date first" or "from bottom to top = recent date first". Has backtested well and has tons of indicators to choose from. All in all, a great back testing product if you are fairly competent with Excel.

One time only - the last person I did this for complained that 'you need to be a software engineer'.

Not the case. Go to www.ta-lib.org and download the complete file (sizeable) and then take only the very small .xla add-in from it.

I am in the process of developing a backtest engine that incorporates TA indicators and the sort of output that comes form tradestation. I wonder if it would be of interest to others ??

Hi Pitbull,
Thanks for your feedback.
Agree that it appears to be a great backtesting product. I'm on a 10 day trial, hence my request for info.

General - does the free excel TA addin do backtesting ?

Regards to all,
Gwenallt.

Lads, info is a 2 way street is it not ?
TG,

what have you developed your back testing engine in ? Might be interested in comparing notes.....

Cheers

Hi,

Anyone got any updates on this / TraderXL / IBXL?

I'm thinking of buying it, but a lack of response from their support desk doesn't inspire confidence.

Basically, I'm after some opinions on whether it's worth the money?
