I'm 65 years old, appreciate your time, father of nine. With sixteen grandchildren I retired am pretty computer savy but new to doing my own trading. Starting with a small amount 5k I have the basics but great difficulty finding stocks in play. Hope to learn from the far more experienced traders. Looking forward to learning from all of you. Thanks

Congrats on starting your trading journey, Making that transition into active practice is a huge first step.
The first few months are all about building the right habits. While everyone focuses on the gains, the pros focus on risk management, protecting your capital is what keeps you in the game long enough to get good at it. If you haven't already, I highly recommend starting a trading journal to track your progress; it’s the best way to turn every trade into a lesson.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint, so keep that discipline high and stick to your process. Looking forward to seeing your growth!

finding stocks in play
You can find more than enough to work with using the free level of a screener like Finviz or TradingView. Just have to decide what your selection criteria is: small cap or large cap; trending, breakout, or reversal; institutional participation, etc.

I have some set up using approximately the criteria of some big traders, at least as close as possible with free Finviz:
William O'Neil CANSLIM
Andrew Aziz
Jack Carter
Qullamaggie

Watch those for a while. Put them into watchlists, track how they do over the day and the next few days.
Still ultimately have to do your own research, make your own choices. But that'll give you a decent starting point vs 8000 stocks.
