Good day All,
I'm off on a little journey... I'd love it if you would join me... at least in terms of moral support and guidance ...
Have a little look at the picture I've attached...
Yep, people (and I use that term in it's loosest sense ) actually live there. And yes, we have electricity - got it a few days ago . Now you have an idea of where I am coming from (literally!), I'll tell you what I'm doing...
I am leaving for a 14 hour ferry journey in, well, 2 hours actually. Whereupon I will be embarking on an adventure to The Big Smoke. I am young, free, and ambitious. I don't have a mortage or kids or any such "impediments". From all the great contributors here on T2W, there is quite a lot that do have such ties. I applaude them for spending their spare time learning to trade, trying to make a better and more satisfying life for themselves, and in some cases, their family. As such, I feel I should make the most of the position I am in...
I have harvested, and filtered, a list of 30+ trading companies based mainly around London. These are a combination of 'arcades' and prop. firms. The plan is to basically go along each and every one in person, smartly dressed, and with CV in hand. I will rinse and repeat until I get something. I am not new to trading, but I am also not consistently profitable. I believe I have read every post on T2W on arcades, prop firms, and such like - so I think I know roughly what's out there and what to expect. What do I hope to get out of this?...
My ultimate aim is to be mentored by a full-time trader. I really do believe that there are many full-time traders who would like to mentor someone (particularly if they trade from home). But I can equally see how it could be a bit of a gamble for that person, spending their valuable time and effort with someone who, for any number of possible reasons, may never be successful. I'm sure there are traders who may wish to test new ideas, or would like to know if their results are replicatable by someone else, or just like guide someone along the path they have taken whist pointing out the places they have stumbled along the way. I like learning how to learn, and as a result, know the true value of spending time with someone who knows what they are doing. As most people probable realise, nearly all learning occurs at a subconscious level. If any traders have thought about mentoring someone, in whatever capacity, I would most welcome even just a chat. You never know What might result. I know I get immense pleasure helping people in any way I can, and I'm pretty sure most people feel the same.
Anyway, the best proxy [for having a mentor] for this, that I can think of, is getting into a trading firm. I'll put up my list of firms I plan to head along in my next post. Any comments, tips, suggestions, or guidance on what I am doing, or about the firms I will be visiting would be most appreciated.
I'm not out to be spoon-fed. I've got a Masters degree (not that it makes a succeful trader - but at least it demonstrates I can stick to something). I am no stranger to effort and diligence. I'm not just sitting in my room starting threads like, '....how much can I earn?...', or '...is getting into a firm just luck?...'. I'm leaving in, ooooh, 1 and 1/2 hours for this (spending a few days with relatives in Scotland first though ).
I'd love it if there is anyone who would like to meet up, or even have a chat on the phone, and would like to give a little guidance, or more, on my (might I add, slightly daunting) journey. Let's see what true powers the almighty community that is T2W can actually achieve... .
Thank you all,
Magnus
p.s. I will be aways from any computers for the next day or so (travelling, obviously ), so might not be able to reply to any posts, PMs, or emails right away - but will see if I can access something...
