OK. I didn't think it would be worth the effort.

I'm glad my handle on psychology is sufficiently well honed to have foreseen the most likely result, but one thing I might need a little work on is in allowing my intent to override my intuition in thinking it would be this time. LOL.

Glad you let us know.

We're off to a good start.....LOL

I opened the pdf and the first line I read (I skipped half of it) was;

"Substance is friendly to you,"

Now that's certainly what the lads on the stag do in Madrid thought last week.

Sadly the next line was something about prayer. That was me done.

Is that the type of contribution you were after?:D

erm, I have just read the first 21 pages, and there are 77 of them.

this had better be good, cos its a sort of vague "you're poor cos you're not thinking properly" type stuff that over-valued, middle-class types might cling to to give meaning to their otherwise pointless material-rich but spiritual-poor lives.
In a world of 6billion, and the level of poverty that exists outside our pampered and cossetted world we couldnt even begin to contemplate, it also seems somewhat offensive to those that do have to eek out a living under the most dire of circumstances.

With the "Formless Stuff" shaping itself to meet our needs, hopefully the Hubbert Peak Oil is a figment of our imaginations, and billions of more barrels of oil will magically appear this year, and every year, happily, for everafter.

This had better be worth the read, TheBramble, or I will be most upset.
(dont normally read stuff like this, except to ridicule it, but am reading it only because you are recommending it)

oh, while I am at it.....
the majority of people, are by definition, average. We cannot ALL be rich. The majority of people will always be left doing the drudgery and tedious stuff. Even in a world where we live in brick houses and drive cars, we ARE rich, but we compare ourselves to our localised peers, not see ourselves in a global perspective. Hence the pathetic belief that they (ie, warmly-clothed, centrally-heated, educated (well, free schooling from age 5 to 16 minimum), and FAT) are hard done-by.
The poor are those who complain theres nothing to do, when there are colleges to learn at, and libraries to discover.
If they were sent to Somalia or Burma for a month, they may get a truer perspective of their SHEER GOOD LUCK.

People who whinge should be shot. (the above is critique, not a whinge, by the way. the two are quite different.)
off to read the remaining 56 pages. (adds upto 11; wow, spooky)

I'm not after any particular type ot style of contribution, or contributions at all really TB. I started this thread out with the serious and positive intent of investigating the role and result of intent, if any, in our trading endeavours, but it's gone the way of boredom and tangential thinking as do most topics. I have no problem with that. How could I? LOL.

However, as this is a 'serious' thread in a 'serious' part of the site (not The Lounge), old Lightning will presumably be around in a minute to clear this thread of all 'larks' and 'fun' type posts as well. Unless it's all bollox of course...

What? There are 77 instances of the first 21 pages?

trendie, WTF are you talking about? Maybe you should read it all, should you choose to, then comment.

Maybe you have an issue with ‘over-valued middle-class types’, but I don’t see any class issues in there at all. It was written almost 100 years ago and in a very different place. Anything you see as part of your own personal current day angsts, you’ve bought to the party yourself – it’s not in what’s written on the pages you’ve read so far.

As for ‘pointless material- rich but spiritually poor’ – it’s written for people who aren’t necessarily materially rich at all. You’ve also fallen into the trap of assessing material wealth and spiritual development as being on opposite sides of the scales. You don’t have to have one at the expense of the other. Had you read to the end before deciding you already knew enough, you would have discovered that.

Why is it offensive to these people? Are you one of them? Do you know any? Have you asked them? Or are you speaking from the disembodied comfort and luxury of your own ‘pampered and cosseted’ world?. There’s little glory in poverty and nothing other than outright hypocrisy in those who make a show of championing it – form a safe and comfortable distance. And WTF does any of what you say have to do with what you’ve read so far. It’s ALL projection trendie. Shame on you.

This had better be worth the read, TheBramble, or I will be most upset.

Your call, your choice. You take responsibility. Read it – don’t read it. Makes no difference to me. You’re already ridiculing it before you’ve even got half way through so your intent, we see, becomes quite manifest - which is ironic given the context and the essence of this thread.

All the trappings of a great speech, which will get you reps from those that aren’t able to differentiate, but unfortunately, it’s in the wrong thread.

My internet has been down for the last 2 days so I'm new to the thread and missed the pdf.

The book in question doesn't happen to be "As a man thinketh" does it?

If not, I'd be interested to know what the book is.

Cheers,

...

I hadnt finished reading it, and didnt save pdf to my PC.
got to chapter 10; Correct use of will.

summary so far:
religion causes sinfulness, as focussing on sin creates teh very sin that they rail against.

still dont get the Fromless Intelligence "creating" gold (or oil) out of Formless things.
(difficulty in accepting that tsunami victims "created" their own tragedies.)

imagine what you want, and act as if you already had it. visualise it in detail, ask for it, and then show gratitude. (the cosmos will then bring it to you)

dont think of it as competition. dont do sharp deals. give willingly and with gratitude.
dont focus on poverty, focus on wealth.
allowing bad thoughts into mind allows them to take root in mind.

medicine creates disease! does that mean if we stopped investing in AIDS/HIV research the problem will go away? (but only because the people will die quicker)

(does that mean education creates ignorance??)

TheBramble: If I am the cause of you removing the link to the PDF, then I apologise. Other interested members should not be denied the document because of my cynicism.

I've read many of these books and IMO 'Think and grow rich' is worthwhile.

Free ebooks from Napoleon Hill, James Allen, Russell Conwell and more

There's even an old thread about it.

Intention and desire are incredibly powerful tools

The part most of us fall down on is knowing what we truly want and the dichotomy between what we think we want and want we actually need.

To find the answers requires a level of self knowledge only attained through much work.

my take on it;

Whilst it may be a powerful tool, I wouldn't want to surround myself with the type of people that would use it.

As Rols alludes to, if we spent our energy deciding what we really need, what really makes us happy, rather than the greed driven desires people slave themselves for - the world would be a happier place all round.

Here's why middle class sucks:

You are not poor.

Middle Class! You get to see both perspectives and every degree
<----------------------between (example: working middle class, middle middle class, upper
middle class. And yes, there are 3 types of middle class. Bill Gates is
technically not upper class, because he was born middle class and his
fortune is self-made.

But you are not Rich.

What is nice about middle-middle class is that we got the basics to start our own businesses and/or get a solid education. Who doesn't want to be rich, or at least well-off? We're all traders here...so I would assume the goal is to make as much freekin' money as possible...Not everyone can be rich for the simple fact that some people accept their social status 100% and do not care about much else. But if you're poor and/or middle class, you have the power to move closer to your ultimate dreams of wealth...which is only part of the pursuit of happiness. Life is unlimited and the universe has plenty of wealth to go around IF you look hard enough.

Totally agree !

Also, Mr. Hill wasn't just spouting off of the top of his head in a vacuum, he was merely in essence writing about what the then richest person on this planet, Andrew Carnegie, viewed as the basis of his success, the insight that "thoughts are things".
