interesting, not long ago i read an article saying that Canada and Sweden or visa versa were the best places to live not only for quality of life but also the lowest crime rates

Australia or Sweden...or if your lucky, both. Sweden for the 3 months that it has a summer (and the 1-2 months where the skiing is okay) and Australia for the cricket season, the beaches, and the grand prix .

As a New Zealander who lives in Australia I can assure you that you don't want to pay the taxes down here. Australia in particular is one of the worst in the world.

Residence somewhere else with visits to australia for less than 180 days a year might work but they are rapacious and may decide that you are tax resident here anyway if it suits them.
