Sports Day Trading

Hey,

How come you stopped?

Stopped sports day trading? I've not!

Stopped posting my daily trades here?
I though continual daily posting would likely be boring ... as my predictions are black-box, neural network derived I can't flesh them out with any sort of human reasoning. So it all gets a bit "samey".

I'll be back again, don't worry, maybe from next month ~ just not continous postings on this board boring the pants off everyone (I have my own board for both my sports day-trading daily posts and for boring people)

My progress (or otherwise) since May? ... since you asked(?)

June: +963.06 profit :)
July: -257.16 loss :(

But, thanks for asking. Nice to know at least somebody reads my ramblings on here!

Hi y'all,

Just to keep my thread updated.

My sports trading mimicked the FTSE in August, with one major difference. The FTSE recovered, my bottom line didn't! A resounding -1,595.04 hole in the bank over the month.

Still, September is another month and such trials & tribulations serve as a handy reminder that things can and DO go either way, so don't get too carried away with a few winning months.

A September recovery is well under way. :D

Be lucky.

Happy November!

After a four month absence, it's hello again from me. Have you missed me? Aw shucks.

Away with the doubters, I'm still plodding the daily sports spread betting path with all the usual (and not unexpected) peaks and troughs along the way. Overall, from the date of my last posting, May 31st 2007 up to and including 31 October 2007 my spread betting bank has grown by some 850 points. Some little way behind my target gains unfortunately.

At various points along the route I experienced times where I could claim to be substantially exceeding target, and others where it was like pouring money down a very deep drain. September and October have been a fruitful period, but they did little more than claw back the horrendous financial happening that was my August. But we all know, don't we, nobody becomes a trader for a steady income.

The graph showing Data Miner's four-month financial roller coaster;

Over recent weeks I've also been looking into setting up a spread betting specific discussion forum. Not in competition with T2W you understand, or with any other board, but rather born out of necessity and frustration that no such animal currently exists to feed the needs of spread betting fans such as myself.

Boards such as T2W do have aspects of spread betting chat but it can be difficult to seek out. Equally sports betting sites also treat spread bettors almost as an afterthought. A specific and dedicated spread betting forum is IMO long overdue, its intention is to satisfy the needs of that enthusiastic minority of spread traders who are currently under represented. Click on my profile to find the site url, all spreaders (and even potential spreaders) will receive a warm welcome - especially financial spread traders, an area which is currently outside of my sphere of experience, but is an integral part of the plans for an active group.

I'll be re-starting my daily picks from today on here. Fingers crossed I'll make it a hat trick of good trading months, the harder I work at it, the luckier I get.

Whilst I do use Betfair quite extensively, I have never ventured into the world of spreadbetting in this area. Does having Sold Lingfield SPs @ 55(SP,SX) 4pts mean that you expect the SP to reduce in price compared to a standard ?

Sorry Paul,

I'm making assumption about prior knowledge. Yes a "SELL" is going low, a "BUY" is going high.

Most of my stuff is selling, so usually I want the finishing make-up to be lower than the quote I've sold.

Great start today, 4 winning trades from 4 for a +166.04 first day trade return (despite my sell of Newcastle winning distances standing at 25 after 2 races!)

Anyone else not understand what's going on here, ask away :)

DM

Now you have got me thinking about this because there are ways to indicate if the SP is likely to go down or up for particular races. Is this race specific or course ?

Paul

Not sure I understand the question. But the daily racing spreads (SPs, winning margins, favourite performances, etc) are on a "per racecard" basis. Most are traded in running though (but I NEVER trade in and out of a position - my calculations are for the whole racecard, I trade prior to race one, and stick it out until the bitter end)

Biggest influence on the day by far, was the result from my home town team Mansfield, playing at home to Macclesfield.

Mansfield who have only recently clawed their way out of the bottom spot in the bottom division (by way of a goalless draw), playing Macca, who no great shakes, had still only lost 3 of their previous 13 games this season. How could anyone foresee this as a 5-0 win to Mansfield? Still, it was, and the game was responsible for an almost 200 point dent in the day's proceedings.

No post mortems . . these things happen. Get used to it!
