How do commodity desks at banks and producers differ?

What is the difference between a commodities desk at an energy company and a commodities desk at a bank? How does the job differ?

My understanding is that traders at an energy firm are actually trading oil for delivery whereas at banks and hedgy's it's specualtive positions which they would never want delivery of.
