Much Better

The news at 0930 brought a better move, took 30 pips using my 2 contract strategy.

Total for the day, 45 pips.

A very quiet day for the rest of the day, I'm going to call it at that and enjoy the rest of my Friday, thats the beauty of this game.

A Frustrating Day

A tough, frustrating day today. Up and down, up and down, ended up breakeven on the day, but thats what my strategy is like, even on a rough day, you rarely lose.

Took +50 from the morning session this morning.

No more from me until the 1330 US announcements today, off to the gym for a workout and a swim.

Another Day Another Dollar

Lost 20 pips then eked out 20 pips eked out from the 1330 news announcement, done for the day at +50 pips.

I'm trialing a nice 'pre-news' indicator method at the moment too, which is showing a success rate of around the 60% mark with a risk:return ratio of around 1:4, i.e. I get an indication of which way the news is going to move the market a little before the announcement, while the spreads are still manageable and I can still get a fill, I get in long or short, aim for 20-25 pips on a 2 contract approach and put in a nice tight 5-10 pip stop.

Went against me for a 10 pip loss today, but at that strike rate and that RR, it should be a nice earner over time.

Will start to post those results from today also and will indicate them as 'PreMover'.

So, totals today, Daytrader +50, PreMover -10.

Nice Morning

A straight 30 right off the bat this morning by 0730, short 1.8995 at 0705 2 contracts, exit one at 1.8985 for 10 pips, second at 1.8975 for 20 pips, running total for the day +30 pips.

Watching for a new turn to the longside, otherwise will wait for further news at 1030, 1330 and 1500 today, quite a busy day, the 1500 Consumer Confidence out of the US should be a good opportunity for both my PreMover and DayTrader methods.

The Turn Came

Nice one. Entered the turn long at 0805 @1.8980, 2 contracts, exit one at 1.8990 and the second at 1.9000 for another 30 pips. Running total for the day +60 pips. Lovely.

Another Nice Move

Nice move off the 1030 announcement, short 2 contracts at 1.8995 at 1032, exit one at 1.8985 and second at 1.8975 for another 30 pips.

PreMover method indicated long, so a loss there to my tight stop of 10 pips.

Steaming Ahead

31st October 2006

Larger update here covering the 1330 and 1500 timeframes in what has turned out to be a huge day for me, an example of a day where everything works out just right.

1330 Announcement, preMover method indicated a long, so a loss there to a very tight stop of 5 pips, result, -5.

However a nice short from the dayTrader method after the announcement with 2 contracts resulted in 10pips from the first and a break even from the second, resulting in +10 pips.

A turn to the upside resulted in a long for another 10 pips before closing all trades prior to the 1500 news.

The preMover method indicated a long for the 1500 announcement, bought in just before at 1.9015 and closed that trade for +60 pips...the preMover showing its power there.

The dayTrader trade off the 1500 announcment saw the usual 2 contracts entry at 1.9020, exiting one at 1.9030 and the second at 1.9040 for my standard 30 pips.

So, thats me for the day, like I said, a blinding day, in total:

Morning All

1st November 2006

Well, the 1st of November is upon us, its a beautiful, if a little cold, day up here in Edinburgh today.

Another good start to the day pulling 40 pips from what panned out to be a tough few trades to begin with, but recovered well with the long move from around 8am this morning.

I'll be working the rest of the day off the 0930, 1315, 1500 and 1800 news, so stay tooned for more updates.

0930 Anouncement

1st November 2006

An initial 20 pip loss then a 40 pip gain from the dayTrader method off the 0930 news for a net of +20pips, total on the day for the dayTrader method +60pips.

The preMover method resulted in a long indication, but exited at breakeven.

It's Not All Roses

1st November 2006

Well, that 1315 announcement has taken the wheels off the day.

The preMover method again indicated long, so a -5 pips on that one, followed by 3 dayTrader trades after the news in a very choppy market for -10 pips each, result -30pips on the dayTrader.

Brings the days running total on dayTrader to +30pips, with preMover sitting at -5pips for the day.

Given the day I had yesterday, the statistics say that the losses will come round sooner or later.

A Bit of A Stinger

1st November 2006

Phew, that was a rollercoaster ride, but the approach is holding up despite the big fluctuations, keeping your nerve and staying cool is the key.

The preMover worked well there again for the 1500 news, indicated long, entry at 1.9092 and exited with a trailing stop at 1.9120, +28 Pips.

The dayTrader method took a caning post news, hitting my 'worst case' stop on the turnaround to make -40 pips (20 pip stop x 2 contracts). It then went on to take another -10pip loss followed by another -10pip loss, before recovering with a +30 off the short from 1535.

So, that news session resulted in dayTrader total of -30 pips.

So far, on the day, preMover is +23pips, dayTrader is now breakeven after that shocking session.

Just the 1800 Bernanke session left today hopefully bringing the dayTrader into profitability.

Like I say, a stinger of a day, starting very positive and wiping out those gains in the remainder of the days sessions, hey ho, thats business.

No win, No Lose

Update for the 1800 Bernanke speech, post 1800 had 4 trades for a -10, -10, -10, +30 so breakeven for that session and overall breakeven on the day for the dayTrader method with the preMover method taking +23 pips.

Good Start

2nd November 2006

A reasonable start to the morning with a +10 on the short from 7am then a turnaround from 8am for a +30 with the usual 2 contract dayTrader strategy.

Awaiting a turn South before 9am, but if it doesnt come I'll be focussed only on the 1330 and 1500 US Announcements today and the 1700 speech from the Dallas fed president.

Another Up And Down Day

2nd November 2006

Another tough day, making some losses but recovering. The following sessions produced:

1330: -30, -20, +20
1500 :+30
1700: 0 (breakeven)

All in all breakeven on this afternoon and evenings action, and a +40 from the morning session, so overall dayTrader has a +40 for the day. No preMover trades today as no real heavy news action.
