Community Constitution

i think many want to see the new vendor guidelines. when are these to be published? i don't believe there can be a move forward without them. we are only discussing half of site issues with any knowledge of what is planned at present.

I'm sorry I have not chipped in for a while, I have been tied up with some other stuff this afternoon and its still going on. I'll definately post some more comments/replies/answers before the evening ends. More later.

And lets not forget, the article is one of the few that has been removed (then replaced by accident and removed again !) in anyone's book that has to be an admission that the article fell short of acceptable standards
My post wasn't about Howard's article whose publication was a mistake and duly taken down. In spite of my now holy status (thanks DR - too kind), I admit to making mistakes and rectifying them when they're pointed out.

Yet again the hare, you appear not to be interested in making the site better for everyone, merely in generating lulz to be had from dredging up an old story that's been 'debated' ad nauseum on numerous occasions. Raising the topic yet again isn't constructive criticism; it's in clear breach of existing site guidelines, let alone the new Community Constitution that this thread is supposed to be about. Do us all a favour and change the bloody record - preferably to one we haven't all heard a 100 times before.
;)

If T2W staff and moderators only ever allowed anyone to post that offered totally sound methodologies that are supported by verified account statements - then there would be precious few members and precious little in the way of trading discussion!

Tim.

At last we are making progress.

A) you wish to maximize the number of members
B) you wish to maximize the number of posts
C) you would like the posts if possible to focus on trading discussion
D) you are prepared to sacrifice accuracy of claims, and the quality of posts in order to achieve a,b and c

However,i think you need to question do you really want to maximize the number of members, or do you want to maximize profits ? That might be the same thing under your current model, but its not a fixed constraint.

Until you have this stuff clearly defined you'll all keep running around in circles. it's always going to be apparent to members when you take a decision that's at odds with the values that you publicly promote. When that happens, you get problems.

I've said it repeatedly, I really do not have the slightest clue as to what t2w is trying to achieve, or its standards and values, and I suspect no one else (including its management) do either. That's not a good position to be in.

This is t2w at its absolute most ironic isn't it ?

You appoint a new CEO who states that he's not happy with the way things are regarding the community, and the site content. He asks for feedback, and when he's given feedback, people are told to change the bloody record ! At least I got some feedback :p

The reason that the record doesn't get changed is because you have the same problems now as you had then. The solution now, is the same as the solution then ! I suppose I could lie to you and tell you things you'd like to hear, but unfortunately, I have some integrity, and a genuine desire to help you see what should be staring you in the face.

We have the ridiculous situation where you claim to be in agreement with Steve's analysis whilst rampaging around the forum completely disagreeing with members who bring up exactly the same problems and issues.

When will you finally accept there's a problem with vendors ?
When will you finally accept there's a problem with content ?
When will you finally accept that community spirit has been eroded ?
When will you finally accept that things need to change ?

I fear the answer will be never, but things will change, even if its only someone pulling the plug out of the back of the server and using the resource for something more profitable.

What about porno and escort services to cater for the loosers and winners ? I suspect there would be quite a demand for the former.
Joe -everytime I relent and almost consider you to be intelligent-you confirm my earlier impression that you are short of the minimum number of grey cells to enable you to write a reasoned opinion on anything. But, I am an optimist, and hope you will eventually evolve into someone whose opinion is valued.:p

Note:
*Looser" - opposite of tight or tighter
"Loser" - opposite of winner

does this mean finally the end of the vendor used homepage linking? or at least the vendor badge/homepage link through will be decoupled? else rule 5 is a meaningless sham.

Although there have been many different opinions expressed so far, some of them understandably contradictory, there does seem to be some consistency on this subject.

If I have understood this correctly from this post and others, the point being made is that Vendors should not be able to put links into their profiles and signatures. There has also been the suggestion that Vendors should not be allowed to PM members.

It has been said that doing these things alone will be an indication of our seriousness in tackling the current problems.

So we are going to do them with immediate effect. There are some technical things to sort out before the changes are live but they are going to happen.

Just so we are clear:

1. No links in the profile
2. No links in signatures
3. No link from the vendor symbol
4. No PM's allowed

I'll let you know when it is done.

Thanks for all the time you have spent so far in contributing to this thread.

Agreed. I'll hopefully get them posted some time next week, at least in draft form so we can chew them over. All that has been said so far on this thread (and many others in the past) is helping to shape them so i'll wait a bit longer to draft them.

I know they are long overdue but now we are at this stage I don't think a bit longer matters too much, especially as we can't really move forward on a number of fronts without dealing with this once and for all.

There will be nothing from me tomorrow. I'm off to man the stand we don't have at The World Money Show and to check out this vin-x stuff that has been covered this week. More on Monday.

Best wishes to all for the weekend.

Steve

Banned

banning someone for providing feedback on a thread where feedback is being solicited is quite a low blow. I saw the post (and was actually writing a response in defense of the member of staff being discussed), by the time I'd finished, he was history

I'm finding it hard to understand what aspect of the post was problematic. It seamed a reasonable recollection of previous events. If mods don't wish to discuss in public PM is fine, and if you want to ignore me, that's fine too I'm used to it :)

hope you will eventually evolve into someone whose opinion is valued.

Unlike most, I am not here for business but for a bit of lulz in the dull moments of my day. That is called payoff if anyone is wondering.

I have no need for anyone to value my opinion. Why would I ? It's not like I am here to work towards different ranks of the boy scouts badge. Further more, few have presented credentials by way of statements for me to consider them to be worthy judges of my opinions.

Your hope will be in vain because I will always hang loose, and my views will always be contrary to the vendors' message. Although I have never been contrary for their existence since I see them as valuable teachers for idiots.

If you really believed that criticism of Howard's methods where so beneficial, why didn't you make arrangements for his article to contain a contrary viewpoint ? No end of people would have happily commented. Why deprive the membership of such an opportunity ?

this is a good idea, not sure if it can work in practice across the board, but wld certainly provide exposure to different viewpoints. that is essentially what the 'thread' is for.

each vendor could open their product/service to be reviewed (been suggested before), but this wld be logistically impossible for a big chunk of the lovely chaps eg tutoring service over long periods of time or for expensive systems which require a certain skillset of customer before trying out. for howard et al this method works great cos his was built on flawed option theory which was pointed out in laymans terms (perfect for ppl like me to learn) by all the guys here who actually knew (great thread, for the lulz too).

on a prelim level, t2w cld ask a few 'specialists' for a cpl of hours of their month to at least take a look at some of the vendor articles before they get approved to be published, similar to the proof read by the editors (experts cough)/lawyers etc at a newspaper (which didnt work too well of late).

also a lot of other sites are doing webinars, mainly introductory stuff for newbies, and some are done by vendors but there is no sell whatsoever - the subject is not specifically linked to their products, no promotions of their products, its just left up to whoever attends to google their book or whatever if they wish.

with respect to steve's (welcome back btw) social manifesto, i side with NT....and ET.com is along those lines (from the threads i have read) and prob the forum i like the most (though there is a documented dedine in quality there also whcih is prob the fundamental shift away from forums). ppl asking dumb/lazy questions get shot down straight away, those with thoughtful questions get considered answers (and theres threads on most topics), the trolls invariably come out losers every time (yet they are persistent). this can add to the lulz, if you dont like you just stick on ingore. plus you rarely see vendor scum spam, so t2w need to get hold of their cleanup bot software asap. they do have vendors & vendor issues as well, & some of those are site sponsors, but not so sure their vetting procedures, but its nowhere near as ubiquitous as here.

steve, the strong message from your manifesto post was you wanted this to be a trading related forum. great. one problem, the content of this site probably gives up, as a complete guess, c50% of its space to vendors (adverts, articles, reviews, spam, threads - baghdady/binary options etc etc). ok, they are vendors associated with trading, but what value do the majority of these vendors provide to trading? what value do they provide to newbies wanting to get into trading? ok brokers, platform providers, chart companies facilitate us retail traders to stick a trade on & do some analysis, and some of them also provide some reasonable resources to newbies. and they do very well out of it. these are the ones i assume prob pay most for ad space/clicks as well.

but what about the rest? 2bit/unregulated brokers, signal providers, system sellers, mentors, authors/educators (some of these do add value cos you can get hold of material for v cheap), spurios mkt info vendors etc etc. what do they add? some wld say a lot, some wld say not a lot. most of the ones on this site offer bugger all imo. i wld like to see a vendor offer a competition for noobs to enter and the winner receive the service for free, or smthg like that. or even offer to do a webinar speaking in detail about their system/product and open it up to questions from members - senior and newbies (not quite like the baghdady one)....but you will need to attract decent vendors for this to happen.

and why was DR banned? not perm i hope.

BJ, Will you do us all a favour and start your own journal or something. At least that way all the pollution will be in one place and will also go some way to cleaning up the boards and achieving Steve's objective so others can read in peace.

I'll even chip in with the odd statement if it makes you happy:LOL:

Well, I was thinking mods need to be given some work. Otherwise they'd get fat and lazy, which would not be good for anyone. My posts are usually for conversation, to illustrate points, or to achieve certain psychological goals. So a journal is not suitable.

Your offer of statements is enticing. Have you considered making a journal for them ? I will surely be a big follower.

Post reported for being in violation of article 2 of the constitution (do not feed the trolls)

Post reported for deliberately misleading the members into thinking that you actually did report my post.

Contravention of 2 3 8 9 and 10 :)

Probably an automated system that deletes anything I post, after all its all "total bollox" :p
