Hi guys

Does the IMC Amsterdam office online test differ from the IMC pacific test ? What is Junior Trader-Strategist?? I don't remember I applied for this role? anyone applied for this role?? What is the very first round shl numerical test like??? It is the same with normal IB shl numerical test?? And if you passed the shl numerical test, there would be a subsequent shl verbal test???

Many thanks!!

Anyone from IMC?

If you survive the most difficult online tests, you should be able to survive the IMC one as well.
The only thing I can tell you for sure is that passing through the stages and even interviewing with one of the directors does not guarantee u a place there.
Don't get me wrong, IMC is a brilliant firm with some very intelligent people working there. My impression is that they are looking for a particular kind of person as well as the required analytical skills.
I hope I'm wrong. Actually, it would be nice to have the opinion by some traders/strategists from there but they seem to be super quiet and low profile. Any people working for IMC anywhere?

thanks a lot for your opinion, have you gone through all the test stages? what is after shl math test?

If u r based in Holland, you will probably get a brief phone interview and be invited for an in-house interview. If u r based in UK, i don't know what they will do, i suppose it will depend on how many people they need and how fast u were at that test.
I guess they are looking for really young and motivated guys. If u play poker, are relaxed and have traded as an amateur i believe u have a reasonable chance of success.
Then again, I don't work for IMC and all i just said might be total rubbish. It's up to u to make an educated guess.
PS: don't let the friendliness of the HR and everyone else fool you. these are tough people.

Hi Shark, thank you very much for your advices!! I got rejected after the HR competency interview with Tibra Capital!! The HR was very friendly, I guess you are right, if you are not very special, it is very difficult to impress the HR!!!!

But I saw other posts about the IMC Pacific test, there were verbal test, and playing some games, etc. There is no verbal test for HOlland IMC or something?

My experience with IMC Amsterdam was from exactly 2 years ago, i used to live there with my girlfriend-no clue if they do simulation tests for Holland or not these days. My impression is-and again, i might be mistaken- that the recruitment process in HK and Australia is far more intense than in other locations.
You know Tibra was partly formed by IMC pacific employees who just walked out. I guess now that they are the bosses they are taking revenge on what they had to go through to be recruited
Personally, i was gutted to have been rejected by IMC Amsterdam as i know i could do the job and i actually genuinely liked my interviewers and the vibe of that place.

I'm sorry to hear you were rejected by them. For me during the interview with the HR Tibra, I knew I would get rejected as that HR seemed to get the fidgets during the interview. But the reason she gave me for the rejection was wierd, I guess she simply gave me random reasons to push me away as I failed to show more special experiences. Even now I still feel very confused about that interview with HR, I don't know how to crack an interview...so sad..

Hard to say.
IMC Holland are quite powerful and are not intimidated to recruit total newbies and train them according to their style.
Tibra i think need people on the floor ASAP. Optiver is quite tough as well. I met a guy once who got sacked after 3 months. he just didn't cut the mustard- he was actually quite taken aback with how swiftly they got rid of him.
which brings me nicely to the point i made about these firms looking for a specific kind of person...not just the basic skills.

Oh, and i don't think it helps if you are not dutch.
Have you heard of All options BV? i posted a question about them a while ago and no-one came forward to say anything. They seem to be growing quite fast.

Yeah, I heard the All options!!!!! How is the selection process like??? And what specific kind of people exactly these firms are looking for???

Can I ask what is an arcade???

I might apply there in few months. They have an online speed arithmetic test u can take, i did it and did pretty well. I saw some non-whites and also girls on their 'our people'. that gives me a nice feeling about the company.

Thanks for your information!! Can I ask what an arcade is when you describe a prop firm as an arcade??

At an arcade, u basically rent a trading spot and share your profit.U r not an employee.. Unless u know what ur doing, its a disaster, dont even go there. You will lose money and time.
IMC, optiver, alloptions etc are all proprietary trading firms. meaning they pay u a proper salary to play the company's money, not your own. If u do well, u will not get sacked and even get a bonus, so u r proper employee,a member of the team and u get guidance and advice.
At an arcade, you are just a tennant of a chair and monitor. No coaching, no help and they want to share your profits.
Get it mensa?

Thanks a lot shark, I still have too much to explore, you should teach me more!!!

My understanding is that in the usa the term prop-house and arcade are used freely. Best way to check who is who is to look for words like 'deposit' or 'desk fee'. In which case, u should immediately turn around and run to save your newbie-trader life :)

IMC Junior Trader-Strategist

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has been invited to take part in the telephone interview for the Junior Trader Strategist position in Amsterdam. I’m based in the UK and have just been told that it will be a 15 minute long but have not idea what it will involve i.e. Competency based or technical. Any comments would be most appreciated.
Thanks all
Harj

Hi, after you passed the SHL numerical then the telephone interview is coming?? They said I didn't pass the SHL numerical test. Can I ask how much time did you spend on the test? The SHL numerical test is the same with most of investment banks shl test, I have done so many times of the same version 21 minutes shl test and I passed them for the banks. I almost memorised each answer for these questions. I completed the test for amsterdam based IMC 6 minutes ahead, they still said I failed the test. What's their problem????
