Advice for trainee trader interview?

Hello all, I'm new to the forum though I've read quite a few threads on here before. I have an interview with a trading firm this week for a trainee trader role and they mainly deal with futures. Never had an interview for this kind of position before so don't know what to expect :confused:
 
they will probably ask you about trading ......just a guess

What's the name of the company?
 
They may ask some easy questions related with trading or future to know your little bit knowledge about trading.

yep ......deffinately .....I think you should concentrate on questions about trading....:cry:

also ........I think that Beekeeping may come up so research that as well
 
make sure that you have a general awareness of what is going on globally.. who is the head of the ECB? what is the current price of oil etc. etc. These questions are not there to trick you out but just make sure you do have the 'interest' displayed on your cv.

Other than that brush up on your mental arithmetic.. get as fast as you can adding, multipling etc. two, three digit numbers.

and of course make sure you wear red braces.
 
Interviews went well guys, thanks to those giving advice but don't think I can take the position if offered as it is very low paid during training which would prove difficult for living in the city. Kind of sucks as I've gotten to the last stage and it went well.

So you're going to give up a potentially lucrative long term and personality defining career in order to avoid a bit of short term pain? Sounds to me like you don't want it enough assuming the offer is good and genuine and not from a sketchy outfit which means you're probably better off turning it down anyway. If on the other hand you do really want it you should really try snapping out of it.

The issue is I just don't have the cash to support myself during the training stage and I start repaying my postgrad loan in a few months time as well. I've spent the past few days looking for cheap places to rent and working out how much i can afford to spend on various things.

I do want it but it could leave me completely broke within a few months and on the street in a city which is far from home. :confused:
 
F*ck the loan repayments off, get a shared accommodation in a sh*t hole, have a bash, if it all goes t1ts up dig off and stay with family until you get back on your feet and you'll have had an adventure at the very least. You'll regret not taking this offer and at least giving it a try if you get nothing else and end up in a job you hate like me and a lot of other people. S'only money mate... you'll be surprised at how little you need to survive when restriction is thrust upon you. I've been in a similar situation before and it's strangely liberating. That all being said if you did well at PG then hopefully you'll find something better. Anyway good luck whatever you decide :)
 
That's the thing I've another job offer on the table with a good graduate salary and perks. The contracts two years so I'm thinking do I take it then come back and try again having saved up some money. I'm still only 23 so time is on my side in that respect. The interviewer hinted at it himself but I'll see if I get this offer or not. Find out Monday I think.

at not trying it ....!

I cant believe they offered you any money at all......when a ridiculous number of people are interning in most industries ....:cool:

well it turns out there is another round to the process :LOL:

got a phone call this morning to tell me I got through and will be contacted next week about the details of the final round. Checked my bank account today and it'll be very tight making ends meet but as you guys say it's a hell of an opportunity if I get offered it.

I'm just still thinking that my other job offer involves working with options and trading technologies and that even if i did this job for 2 years i'd be in an even better position after both financially and experience wise.

My "Heart vs Head" battle rages on.
 
It's a good problem to have... I can't find sh1t. Too qualified fr entry level stuff and not experienced enough for an experienced position. I'll be f*cked if I'm gonna stay in tax forever. The thought alone is making me want to string myself up.
 
Well guys I called the trading firm today and pulled out of the process. I explained why and they were very grateful that I was honest with them and understanding of my situation. They welcomed me to apply again in a year's time when I can afford to enroll on the trainee program as they felt I was a very strong candidate.
