Where are the some of the best places to try out for a while if your just bored and depressed with dull, grey, cold, rainy days.?
(with nice beaches) - not too far away..?

Thailand, but only if you find a small island with hardly any tourists, use the web to research.

Costs

£450 direct flight, maybe even nearer £400.

£100 flight(ish) down south to Phuket (don't stay there very expensive and now pretty tacky)

Boat to a small island - don't know cost perhaps £20 or so.

Beach hut £5-£10 a night

Booze, if you drink the local whisky/coke and a few beers then £10 a day

Food - eat local and you'll struggle to pay more than £5 per day.

Total cost for 2 weeks = (about) £900 and if that's not a great price I don't know what is.

For me always NY, makes me forget all the worries back home once im there!
Long way to go but well worth it for me... i dont do lazy beach holidays unless im diving or fishing LOL

sun gauranteed

Egypt, Sharm el sheik - hot - 5 hours from UK and relatively cheap, all the 4 star are much the same, the best one is the '4 seasons', second is the 'Hyatt Regency'.
The main town is not worth the effort, just stay by the pool...

Thailand would be perfect but 11 hours there and upto 13 hours home, you would need 3 weeks

The great British explorers of the past, including Cook, Shackleton, Stanley etc are turning in their grave on that comment :)

If they were alive now they'd say something like -

"Let me get this straight, you arrive in some flashy terminal building stocked full of bars, pubs and food and wait a few hours till your board this thing you call a plane.

Then once on the plane you're given a reasonably comfortable seat, free food, free booze and have a machine in front of you that can entertain you with films, music etc.

And if you want to go to the loo, they're always clean with plenty of bog roll and soap.

And after the food you might have a nap for an hour or 2, eat some more food and drink some more.

Thyen after 12 hours you're half way around the world!

And you call that hardship young man? You should be shot :) :) :)

:D, still think he should take Rossini's advice and go to Blackpool though.

I have travelled the world, back packing, 5 star and on business.
Flying does not get any easier, Im 6' 5" tall and 17 stone, and cant sleep on a plane.

So a cheeky little 5 hour flight to a luxury hotel in the sun appeals.

:cool::cool::cool::LOL::LOL::LOL:

6' 5" and 17 stone, yep 12 hours for a big fella is not so much fun, can appreciate your arguments.

5 hours seems about right.

OP - How about looking at Dubai, there must be 1,000s of empty hotel rooms there right now, plus about 100,000 empty flats if you're thinking of buying :)

bargain really hard, you are in control not the hotels.

Check out Martin 'I love myself sooooooooo much' Lewis's forum as there's a lot of chatter about excellent holiday deals. The forum, not the website.

Good call, nice lateral thinking and given that there are thousands fleeing the desert city on a daily basis,( leaving the keys in the ignition of their leased cars at the airport), you might also get a 'free' rental car for a week or two :)

The beach resort in my head. Empty, sun-blessed, golden sand beaches. The solitary palm tree for shade. Nobody about, not even Judith Chalmers and her film crew. For true longlasting relaxation, travel within not without.

Well ive decided to get married this October coz the missus said we could do a bit of travelling. So just to wind some of you up or even if anyone has any suggestion about what i should see here my stops.

LA
Mexico
Vegas (Get Married)

Melbourne
Gold Coast
Fraser Island
Sydney (Christmas and New Year)

Then 2 weeks spare to decide where to go ( Maybe Thailand):clap::clap:
