How to manage so much information of Forum

There are so many threads on the forum and many times some very important point gets mentioned in a given thread. I instantly feel like making a note of this important point because I think it could be very helpful in my trading and I might need this idea in future.

Which knowledge managing software is best suited for noting down the important points from the forum, as there is so much data, and it becomes impossible to remember, which good point was given in which thread... so how to manage all this in a better way ? If I start to save every webpage of such threads manually then the data becomes huge and it is hard to categorize such data in different segments!

What software or online service "cloud computing etc." could help us in this regard ? I am looking for some solution where I can save this information systematically and easily in just a few seconds. This software should be specifically good for capturing/saving the information from web pages articles and current forum.

How to keep a record of important threads and important posts and to label them, why exactly they are important to me, so that I can easily find and correlate it when I need this information back.

Please post your ideas in this regard.

PS: the default method of thread subscription and favorites is not much helpful in this regard because of the enormous data size.

There are 3 options in my book:

1. Cheap & cheerful - copy & paste into spreadsheet / word processor / database. The database will occupy your time & defeat the object of spending time trading.

2. Practical utility that's simple, cheap & effective. I've used this for years (and not actually for T2W though it is ideally suited). http://www.bitsmithsoft.com/

3. Gold-plated solution from academia. If you're the sort of person that likes to go to Tesco's in your Rolls-Royce then this will probably suit you. http://www.biblioscape.com/

As usual in trading, one of the biggest problems is information overload. My solution: start with a small amount and only increase if it gives you a benefit. The reverse will addle your brain in no time. :)

Use a pen and a piece of paper. If you are feeling adventurous try a pencil and a notepad.

Once you start that, though, you have to decide whether you are an editor or a trader.
A lot of members do like to post, there is no doubt about it, I'm one of them! But I read, rarely research stuff or take notes. This forum is huge, now, and there isn't the time.

.... and of course the cr@p/useful ratio is about 80:20 and of the useful stuff you will probably only use 20% of it 80% of the time. ..... just need a decent system for organizing all those stick-it notes / bits of paper / backs of fag packets.

To really make the most of the site and the information within it, you must have a plan of what you want to find out first.

There is so much posted now that unless you spend all day sifting through it all that you will never get to the end.

In my personal opinion (others may disagree) the best content is pre 2007. Yes are are snippets here and there that are of value but the majority comes from posters in the past who no longer take part anymore for whatever reason.

Quality versus quantity again.

Todays trend tends to be journals of wannabe traders who dont like to lose and take quick profits. They last for a few months then wipe out when the big move comes. Then someone else comes along and does exactly the same thing and the circle continues.(n)

Get a plan, list what you want to find out, and use the search function and keywords.

Pen and paper is all you need, just list the key points.

Good luck

Mmmm! Maybe I should post less.

ratio is < 5% , so get loads of rubbish filters.Information is only good if stored in your memory,it won't be any use on the side, thats where it becomes useful.

The IGNORE feature here is an excellent rubbish filter.

Oildaytrader made an excellent point. Pento posted one of my favorite lines I've seen yet on this site.
Take ODT,s word for it. Most of what you read is rubbish. It becomes a personal thing of taking due diligence to decipher the rubbish and formulate a trading plan that is best suited for you. The very few of us that are trading profitably consistently paid our dues with hard work, and taking the time to develop a sound methodology. That's it! There's no secrets. You won't be an excellent trader next week, or even next month. But, you can be, eventually, if you want.

Quite unlike Wacky storing information in a library or some note book, reaching to read the info in the middle of a trade and missing out on entry/exit.Hey WACKY STILL KEEPING YOUR NOTES ON YOUR TRADING DESK?

We all paid our dues and did the time getting the knowledge and storing it in our head, ready to use it instantly as and when required

HUH? What the hell are you talking about??

Read everything you think is interesting. Eventually you will decide whether it is useful or not. What's important to YOU is as personal as your approach to the market, your trading style, your risk management and your psychology.

As for storage and filing of information, that's entirely personal too.

Thank you for the ideas every one. :)

What do you guys think about Microsoft One Note in this regard ? Few guys have suggested me that and I am myself considering to start using OneNote for this work. But I have a few concerns !

I am not sure if I will be able to use the google desktop search for searching within all the notes which I have taken in OneNote.

And the amount of data which I want to save is Really HUGE ! It is not limited to the current forum material. Over the last 4-5 years I have saved a lot of important links and articles in various formats like MS Word files, text files, bookmarks, mind maps, firefox scrapbook addon etc. Now I am thinking about bringing most of this data into one software itself so that it becomes easy to manage and relate to.

That is why I am contemplating various available options for this work. To give you an idea about the amount of data that I have to manage, just imagine 2000 complete threads of T2W having 100 posts each !

Will OneNote be able to hold such big data size ?

And if I wish to share all this database online with some of my friends, then does OneNote allows such online upload and sharing "something similar to social bookmarking" ?

Could any MS OneNote user clarify these ? and share their opinions about the benefits / limitations of this software ?

If you learn from the journal, great, keep going and I sincerely wish you all the best. But most journals keep going until the aspiring trader blows up, or gives up because they are so stubborn and dont learn from the journal and the mistakes that are being made on a daily basis.

On a serious note, not taking losses in the manner of the mentioned journals always leads to disaster. This is something we can all avoid but seldom do because of the need to be right.

To be honest, being a trader is like being a jedi knight, lots of similarities when you watch the films:cool:

Hey cool reply and thanks

Justrade, c'mon, are you really serious!? You are really going to keep notes on 2,000 threads with 100 posts each!? Then, after you do that, you expect to be a good trader. We already told you most of everything you see on here is rubbish. Let''s say 95% is. You have notes on 20,000 posts, which means 19,500 of it is rubbish. Now, all of a sudden, with 19,500 notes on rubbish, you expect to begin your journey to trading stardom. You know the old saying, "Rubbish in, rubbish out." That is what you will get in studying rubbish.
You are going to make this so complicated, and you are going to end up with so much garbage in your head, that you never will develop any sound kind of methodology. Trading is about this simple--sell high, and buy low. All you need is the proper combination of indicators and the formulation of the proepr method to work it all to find the highs and the lows. As your name implies, "Just trade."
Okay, so you think this post is part of the 95% rubbish. Then encumber your slef with all that note taking while sitting on the sidelines wishing and hoping to be a traders one of these days.

Thank you for the ideas every one. :)
