If you look at ghosts and spirits then its obvious there is something else in the
bigger picture that you can only understand and experience.

Trouble is you gotta be dead to see it and experience it.

Im a big believer in good and evil and you see these things everyday.........

God is a theory and therefore you can have an opinion on his existance - But through the evidence, we can only estimate that he doesn't exist... I believe that Christinaity for example improves some peoples lifestyle and therefore is a good thing but ultimately religion was created to control the masses 'You shall not kill' - The government says that GOD tells you not to kill otherwise you go hell .... It controls the people and it did it very well - People used the idea of religion to justify wars, control the people and to gain power.

Thats my belief anyway and i think there is more evidence for mine than his existance therefore logically; an assumption that my theory is more realistic can be made.
 
I don't believe there is anything beyond the material in this world - and that there is only this world. This doesn't make me bitter or a capitalist or amoral, all often suggested as the only possible modes of existence in the absence of some 'higher' belief.

Of course the original question comes from a Christian/Judaic point of view which postulates there is only one God, supreme over all creation. Logically, there might be an argument that there was a Creator, a supreme being who created all things and now presides over them. But if you accept the (to me) highly implausible argument, that there can be higher forms of existence on a divine plane, I find the argiument to restrict such beings to a single form a nonsense. If I was ever tempted to believe in the possibility of a divine being, I would be obliged to believe in a multi-theistic universe, populated by many divine entities - we might call them spirits or gods or whatever. How could there possibly be just one?

Don't be tempted to think we are far away, two millennia away, from such beliefs, and that they are therefore 'primitive'. This would be a horribly Euro-centric and patronising mistake. Many sophisticated communities and peoples around the world, numbering millions of pindividuals, believe in more than a single God.

And at some level, we acknowledge the possibility - next time you throw a penny in a well or a fountain, think about what your're doing and why.
 
In view of this discussion having been ongoing probably since the dawn of time and that regardless of scientific discovery there are as many top scientists who believe in God as who don't, then in my view it is unlikely that on T2W we will resolve this one way or another and as such it is pointless to try.

I could never believe in anyone so vain he insists we construct temples in his honour and then attend them at least once a week to tell him how wonderful he is.

While I agree with him, isn't he evangelising in the opposite direction?
 
In my view it is very much the case that those who vehemently do not believe in God do so with the same fervour as those fanatics that do. Also some of the arguments put forward by those who are atheist ie, that unless something has provable fact it does not exist are as flawed as the arguments that God must exist. We do not live in a world where everything we know can be proven absolutely.

thats all very well,but anyone could make up some invisible man ghosty spirit thing and then say you cant prove it doesn't exist.
you have to draw the line somewhere and just say enough of this bo11ocks superstitious bullsh!t.
I truly believe when man finally dumps religion for good the world will be a much better place ....we just haven't evolved that far yet sadly .
