Teaching trading to the locals, fancy it? You don't need proven credentials, just don't call your teddy mohamed.

Never give to African charities, they are too backward to understand your generosity.

Totally Agree. I would rather cut body parts off with blunt razor blades than throw more money at a backward continent like Africa. I'm bound to get some politically correct individual commenting on what I have written. However, name me a country in the Continent of Africa doing well for itself and I will retract the comment.

You two haven't got a clue what you are talking about.....In fact a rant like this does not even warrant a reply......

Do not judge a country by the action of extremist elements in it...I don't judge UK by the actions of skinheads or BNP.....

I bet Africans states are shuddering in their pants because decision by you two no give any aid to them..,.....

Tweedle dee and tweedle dumm...

1. Not all of Africa are muslim.

2. Most muslims do not support the Sudaneese government and Sudaneese government does not represent Islam.

I've heard about being narrow minded but you two sound like two pipe heads.

With due respect ;)

Yours sincerely :cheesy:

Good morning, how are you today?

The asset-rich african countries are being divested of their natural resources by conglomerates. Something like 90+% of nigerian oil is taken out of Nigeria into western countries, so that we can stay warm, rather than build african economies.
Africa doesnt need aid, it just needs to keep its own natural resources for its own growth.
This would be like you breaking into someones house, steal all their valuables, beat up the owners, and then complain about the cost of buying the owners bandages for the wounds you yourself have inflicted upon them.

The same story could be said about metals-mining, and diamonds, etc.

There are clearly issues about ethnic problems and border disputes, but lets get get too high and mighty, from our cosy, warm, centrally-heated homes about the underlying causes.

EDIT: LOL, CB. that thought occured to me as well! Anyway it was the KIDS that agreed to call the teddy Mohammed, didnt they? The teacher had nothing to do with it; she merely asked the question.

You need lessons in perspective, Jimbo. The BNP don't run round the UK locking people like you up.

So how come people can be named mohammed? isn't that offensive ?

No it is not offensive. The name doesn't make the man. It is the man that defines the name.

There are many named Mohammed who are in jail for murder, theft and all sorts of criminal activity just as there are criminals in Latin America named Jesus or Mary in prisons.

I haven't come across any Hitler's in my time. I suppose the name conjures up such bad images that the name has been tarnished for ever.

I hold the view children naming the Teddy Mohammed is wonderful as it is a term of endearment. It is an honour to Mohammed to be given the name he was given based on his good life...

I lived in Islamic countries for 12 years of my life.

One of those countries was Saudi Atrabia which is exceedingly strict in regard to how you conduct your life....no practice of Christianity permitted, no alcohol, , no social mixing of the sexes unless married etc. etc. etc.

The other country I lived in was Bahrain which is very liberal in comparison and you are able to do openly those banned activities mentioned above and a lot more besides. I raised my kids in Bahrain and they had a marvellous childhood there.

However, what these 2 countries and all other Islamic countries have in common is the seriousness with which they take their religion and their sensitivity towards non-islamic people who comment on Islam or criticise it for whatever reason.

One of the big " No, No's" in these countries is to openly discuss their religion, comment adversely on it or even allude to it in any way.

The best thing to do is never to mention Islam when in the company of muslims...that way you will not go far wrong.

Whilst I totally believe that the reaction of the Sudanese government, muslim clerics and the ignorant masses is totally OTT and right off the far end of the Richter scale and more besides, I also believe that the English woman should have been more aware of the dangers involved in allowing her pupils to call a Teddy Bear by the name of Mohammed.

She allowed the children to take this toy home to show their parents.

Can you imagine ? Hi Daddy...look at my Teddy...he's called Mohammed.

You are 100% certain that there will be at least one fundamentalist or trouble seeker out there who will take grave offence and then cause trouble.

Hence we have this lady hauled before the courts and jailed for 15 days.

She and the West should not complain....she got off lightly.

In fact she is really lucky because she is being given a free one-way ticket out of that hellhole and home next week sometime.

The Sudnaese have made a mountain out of a molehill and so have the British government and the West.

Let her do her 15 days and move on to the next piece of silly news.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't give a penny in charity to a country like that either.

Total waste.

No and that is because they are kept in their place by people like us. If they were in power things may be different.

You too might get locked up perhaps for tucking into some delicious Indian cuisine.

Sooner or later as part of their political beliefs they would become more and more extreme to display their national pride until people are driven out or locked up.

Milosovich comes to mind here and his ambition for the Greater Serbia...
Which is now Minor Serbia in the Balkans... :cheesy:

You are naive to think BNP represent anything other than an inferiority complex for small minded people.

My heart bleeds. Don't bother telling us, write a letter to whom it may concern. Try, Bob Mugabe, i've heard he's like Africas answer to Jimm'll Fixit, Or even the Somalian warlords, they're always good in a humanitarian crisis.

So how come people can be named mohammed? isn't that offensive ?

hmmm unless humans are created in god's image . I mean Muslim's religion is like christians all created in god's image therefore "People" can be called Mohammed, Allah, or god n jesus. That's ok ?

I dont know. About 3 years ago I was on a local beach with family and my dog, I laid on my back looking up, calling allah, allah, allah... I was calling my dog. he resonds to that and he is one of goods creatures...... but ... I suppose i could of got a bloody good kicking then ? even though in the uk ? I need some leaflets or something, i dont want to be out in public offending people when I'm only talking to my dog...

Yes some gentle education to deal with peoples ignorance, thats needed, not some hard jail time, or 40 lashes. That's wrong isn't? how come the teacher wasnt educated then teddy could of been called jesus, elvis even, and all of been well?

This day and age if your in crowded public and someone starts calling allah, allah, allah, people wont know whether to rejoice with life or run for cover . How sad.

Now this teacher who got 15 days jail time for calling the teddy bear Mohammed. The psyche of the people who passed sentence, the humanity of it all (lack of), are they not bonkers? Do these types actually want to have a very BIG WAR , is that the end game?

I just cant get my head around it.

peace all.

You are too right CB, this is one of my fears in the tube. :(

I think If I heard those words on an underground train, I'd dive for cover...

Yacarob, one of my holidays (15+ years ago), a call to prayer was being said and I had the radio on. The waiter asked me to turn my radio off and then afterwards he kindly came back apologised and said I could turn it back on again.

I wasn't offended but as you describe you do become aware of their sensitivities. At the time I thought if he was so pious why wasn't he running to say his prayers but I think I was being perhaps a little defensive.

What a shame, people should be free to question all religion without fear or being killed for it? Sounds like people are worried about losoing total control of individual free will's otherwise, that fear.

Now as the UK is multi cultural, and i think there was a project put forward for London about one dome that will embrace all religious gatherings, not seperate them and maintain the discrimination. SO jews, muslims, christians, yardies etc.. all worshipping under the one roof, and then off for a swift half together afterwards.. all loved up.. wouldnt that be good? I like the idea of it.

Hang on a minute, the bristish school system mentions Islam to christian kid's ,mmm and thats ok with Islam is it?

Get real.

Not all countries are as relaxed about religion as most Western ones.

You know how it goes...

" When in Rome..............."

I must say, I had a delightful 9 years in Bahrain and in my 2 Saudi years I probably drank more illicit alcohol than at any other stage of my life, for want of anything better to do.

And I do rather like a pint or ten.
