G'day all.

I have been looking at IG Markets demo account but before I really got going my 2 week trial period ended so now I'll find another demo account.

What I really wanted to do was to do their free Trade Sense program, mind you I don't know if it is any good at all.

There is one problem though, they won't let me open an account. They say I need to get some experience trading stocks before I can trade with them. It sounds reasonable that they are protecting new comers from the pitfalls of trading but what is a bit funny is that you can't access the Trade Sense program until after you have opened an account. I think it would be more benificial to me if I could study it now before I go live.

Anyway, it's not the be all and end all. I am educating myself at the moment through the web and books etc.

Go to IG Index (spreadbetting) and open an account there. No restrictions.

You can trade 10p /pip in theory for a limited time, but they will extend it if you want.

I'm in Australia, surely they would refer me back here or have similar rules in place.

I'm not sure - I can't see why they couldn't accept overseas clients. I know it's illegal for Americans, but I don't think that theres' any restriction in Australia.

Are you talking about IG or IG Index - Index is the spreadbetting side. I've looked at the app page on their site - Australia is listed under the "Country of Residence" section, so presumably it's OK.

It might be worth trying them anyway:

It's worth checking, but I don't think someone in Australia can get a spread betting account.

I have a mate from Australia and he has an account with IG Markets, and they let him use tradesense, he mostly trades Forex though. Give them a phone call in my opinion.

They don't have the Index spreadbetting here any more, their website says they discontinued it because of the success of the CFDs side of their business. I'll chase up the UK site and see what they say.
