Wolf of Wall Street

It just seemed normal business to me LOOOOOOL

Haha veeeery well put, from the article above:

"It certainly roared in to the No 1 spot on its first weekend in the UK, driving its Porsche across three parking spaces, falling semi-paralysed on to the street and obliterating the competition with some £4.6m.

That's actually the third biggest 18-certificate opening ever in the UK, after Hannibal and Bruno; and boy, is The Wolf of Wall Street 18-certificate. Drugs, sex, nudity and seemingly endless swearing. It's a raucous Saturday-night event movie, the like of which we haven't seen for years.

All this explains, no doubt, why it has proved so popular. After a decade of squeaky-clean, furrowed-brow Spandex superheroes, Jordan Belfort, as played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is just a bad boy, for the hell of it. Never mind the squawks of outrage; The Wolf of Wall Street is a reminder of an age when movies weren't exclusively designed to be moral signposts on the highway of life."

Yeah, keeping all his assets seems to be down to some peculiarity of Florida law.

So there seem to be lotsa, umm, retired good guys, livinng in that sunshiny state spreading good karma around.

Well sir, I watched movie today. I have to say that it was close to porn if not porn. Dicaprio was fantastic as a sales person/broker. I kind of hated wall street until the duration of movie but still wanted to hang around. May be for some people its one way traffic.

The evil part of money is... people knows these facts for 100s years, scams happened in the past, its happening now and will happen in the future... people still gets attracted and gets trapped.

For anyone in the U.K. who's not seen the film - and wants to - it's on Channel 4 tonight (Sunday 4th October 2016) at 9.30pm. Barry Norman's given it a 5 star rating in the Radio Times. (Yes, it's still in print and I get it every week and have done for 25 years plus!)
:)

If you declare bankruptcy you can still keep your house and up to 5 acres it is on if it is paid for.

Not all states are that generous.

A friend of mine used to work in a Croydon based boiler room. Selling fine wines as an investment. Naturally these idiots idolised Jordan Belfort. So much so that the owner of the company paid Jordan to go in and give a motivational speech to his sales staff. Mr Belfort demanded a £10k upfront payment, which they paid him. They never heard from him again.

He's now scamming his own kind!

I really don't understand the logic if any of US law on bankruptcy. A man's assets cover his debts surely. How can a twister like Trump have been declared bankrupt 4 times already and still be a billionaire ?

Trump never declared personal bankruptcy. Its only his business entities that have used the bankruptcy laws. His personal wealth is separate.

Also there are several classes of bankruptcy. Some of which you just reorganize your debts and others which you liquidate assets.

Thanks for explaining that. The benefits of shrewed accountants no doubt.
