I got in at 1.2897 BJ, the bucketshop crooks didn't open until 22.10 GMT otherwise I would have got in earlier

Short at 1.29043. Also realises my errors earlier. The stops were too wide to lock in some quite reasonable profits.

True enough. But I find it even more impossible to just sit there waiting, waiting, and waiting. Scalping brings some relief. Perhaps trading is not my thing.

this is perfectly normal especially if you are relatively young. How you can expect ambitious young men to sit there all day without making a trade, you have to be realistic and trade your personality. For my serious trades I want to be making at least 5 trades per day, usually 10+ or even 20 this is even before I have considered strategy, I simply cannot be sitting there all day and not be involved, cant do it. This is day trading (not true scalping). For day trading you should pick you poison futures, stocks or bonds always flat at the end of the day. I would suggest using Esignal for stocks and ninja/TT for futures. With bucketshops you are giving away the spread on their made up prices right off the bat. With stocks/futures you can put a limit order on the bid and offer and capture the spread if you want. I dont trade the ES but I am pretty sure you can open an account with $1000 and trade 1 ES contract with ninja trader, tick size is $12.50 commission around $3, so if you get filled on the bid and offer you net $9.50 capiche. much more foregiving Joe. Check the commissions with someone who tardes the ES I trade stocks, I cant remember if it is $3 RT.

If you are a beginner then you are wasting your time with bucketshops not only are you not learning but you are wasting valuable time. Come back to spread betting when you know how to trade DMA and then you can spank them.

Thanks for the advice. But I am not going to kid myself that I am trading. I am gambling. So I won't scale up beyond pocket-change at bucket shops. I do feel my situation is improving in that the luck in my gambles is holding, compared to my expectation of being wiped out relatively quickly. For now I am passively analysing what is causing the luck to hold. I think understanding that will bring greater success. For now I am just playing and soaking up the screen time as well as hardening myself from the emotional gyration of the prices. Lastly control of patience needs major practising.

Practice account hasn't the emotional and ego impact of a real account. Hence spankable bucket shops are teh best. I haven't finished blowing my first account yet, so I have plenty more play time to come. Currently I feel confident enough to scalp a good trade if I am really careful. After that I'd gamble to throw it all away. The play is not just for the bets, but also for the internal control and emotions.
