Just said this on another thread, but for me the financial motivation is far from top of the list. Of course we all want to be rich, but more important for me is to enjoy my job - having just left uni, I'm likely going to be spending over 100,000 hours at work. Would I rather be rich at the end of all this, or content? At the end of the day, you can't take it with you.
When I see 'safer', my mind reads 'dull'. I want my job to be something that I can't let go of, not a situation where I sit and watch the clock until 5pm. I follow the financial markets because it's my passion; I can't imagine going home with a copy of 'Tax Returns Monthly' and feverishly reading it cover to cover. If trading happens to make me a rich man along the way, then that will be a bonus.
