hello, i am 26 yo, complete newbie, i want to trade and going to do so!

thanks

i have a question number one:

1. what is happenning to the markets in "off hours time", i mean how come some shares starts the day trading at different prices, than it was when markets was closed, is it something you can not control(if so who controls that?)?

thanks!

J.B. - future super trader

Nothing happens when the market is closed because it's closed :)

But shares can easily open way up or down the following day.

Say the Americans start lobbing bombs on Iran at 1am London time, most shares will open much lower.

Say the stockmarket closes normally and then at 7am somebody makes a bid for Tesco, the shares will likely open a lot stronger.

Basically it's all down to news, no news means a likely unchanged opening.

Hi Shedevilx777
One of the hazards of trading is gapping up and down as a result of events. If you're on the wrong side, be prepared to lose big unless you trade very small.

Admittedly, gapping doesn't happen that often tbh.

Good luck.

Something happens, because it has happened to me! The last time was a long time ago (last year) when I was long DMGT. Why it happened was because they were planning to sell off their free press division. Overnight, during the weeny hours, they decided not to, with the result that they opened down somewhere around 80 points the next morning. I have had good ones, as well, RB. jumped overnight, in my favour, for some reason.

These events are beyond our control and have to be taken into consideration. That is one of the reasons that some traders will not trade overnight. However, London stocks can be a bit slow, which is why the Indices are more popular with them. My problem with that is that the hours are inconvenient for me and. also, I don't like screen watching very much.

she devil,
Welcome to t2w
Actually US shares do trade both pre- and post market, that is, outside normal market hours.
For example I have already made good money shorting MNST pre-market and the US doesn't open for another four minutes.

hi, thanks very much for your help, so the second question would be :

where do i watch real time market prices 24-7 and where I can buy/sell 24-7

as i don't like being "not in control of the situation!", this freaks me out "that some "marketmakers??" has ability to navigate my "financial happiness" their way!?

who is the "marketmakers" and how to "beat them up"? :devilish: ..(or join them?)

THANKS!
