Transfer of Shares Question

I am about to receive some shares from a US bank where I used to work as part of compensation process. I am opening a brokerage account with the bank so the shares can be deposited there.

I am considering using these shares to fund a trading account in the future and my question is can the shares be transferred from my ex employers account to an account at a retail brokerage firm say IB ? I would rather sell the shares at a time of my choosing, using the lower commission rate available.
