Trading Systems - Do they Work?

There seems to be an unlimited number of "Trading Systems" that are offered and promoted all over the WWW but....

Given that the market is very much an ever-changing arena - do these trading systems actually work?

Also, as there is always an "upgraded / better" version available further down the line - does this mean that the "system" has been updated because flaws were recognised / new market moves have been added to the overall algorithm?

Therefore, does this mean that these "systems" are in an ever-changing state and don't actually work?

I have system and works for past 10 years perfectly. What is your problem? You rookie?

If you look at the collectiveC2 website you'll see that indeed most do not work over a long period of time. In fact some dont even work over a short period of time. Many vendors also lie about the profitability of their systems by doing things like leaving losing trades open and only reporting closed trades. Its an absolute minefield and you'd be better giving up before you even start looking for one.

Thanks for your response pboyles. Interesting. I too am of the opinion that they do not work - and therefore wonder how and why so many people choose to go down this route for trading success.

Greed, laziness, gullibility, the list goes on.

what route would you suggest?

It seems there are no shortcuts, you just have to learn to trade yourself. I can only say that what benefited me was learning price action from the james16 chart thread on forexfactory. You are looking at months or years to get to the stage of being consistently profitable. The main problem is not finding a system that works, its actually trading that system without making mistakes and breaking your own rules.

...and in case its not obvious from the above you can disregard all the weekend courses that cost 2 or 3 grand and promise the world.

I'm willing to bet they didn't buy them off eBay for 79.95 or that they only spend '15 minutes a day' trading before they go off to work.

You don't know that for certain. For all we know, they make additional money from selling their systems on the web.

Ok, maybe not.

Their systems are not particularly complicated. Read "Way of the Turtle" for a detailed explanation of a trend system.

It doesn't matter.. it's not the kind of trading that appeals to most people. However, it's a sort of proof that systems CAN work.

This website causes me strong feelings of deja vu. Maybe I need to decamp to Elite Trader.. only thing is, I find them a bit rude over there.

Any trading system will not substitute talent of the trader. To trade it is necessary most because profitable things do not sell.

As Nasty, stated,.....It's never the system,. it's always the trader.
Bit like telling someone there is a God out there ,....it's not until it's drummed into them repetitively for years,..only then,. they start to believe (have faith).

For example: If I developed a system, through years of study,..my faith in it is based on my extensive experience.
Try and pass that over in a box!,.and cultivate the same results. (very difficult).
BTW: It takes the training of the mind through constant repetition, to develop any worthwhile skill,..so there are no real shortcuts,..IMO

Meany,.....I wouldn't say that exactly,...but just that, they're not as easy as sold (it's not always what it says on the tin) : )
Any system that is proven profitable can be copied with the right discipline, and there in lies the rub!
