Traders psychology

I am actually ignoring piphoe in this thread, because he is acting a bit strange: posting, editing, deleting, not sure where he wants to go in the end :)

.. more and more I am in the opinion that mental problems are actually caused by physical issues... Same with the chronic diseases, most of them caused by genetics...

A negative mind can cause chemical and hormonal changes which breakdown tissue. This negative mind could be because of a wide range of factors though...socioeconomical/physical etc....then we could play the chicken or the egg game to see which one caused what and what's a result of the other...

Your personality can determine your life expectancy :)

Mind over matter, I like that!

To go even deeper down the rabbit hole... diet can be just as influential as the rest.
Your neurons are covered in a insulation called the myelin sheath. This quality is determined largely by the fats you eat. The better the fats, the better the insulation, the crappier the fats (trans for example) the crappier the insulation. Just like an electrical wire, it's insulation is vital. If the insulation isn't enough, then the signal doesn't travel optimally, or even get to it's intended destination at all. I believe MS patients were supplemented with high dose of EPA & DHA (fish/omega oils) and noticeable improvements to their condition were observed.

Just to dig even deeper again, when fasting your body actually goes through a state called autophagy which essentially recycles the old cells and damaged cells of the body (different cells depending on the length of fasting). This has amazing implications because now your body is rid of a degree of waste or improperly functioning cells (could turn cancerous) and gives room to build stronger, healthier cells...all this has implications to our psychology also.

Is this thread about trader's psychology or neuroscience?

There are very specific trade psychologies traders typically have to deal with in some shape or form. For example, separating emotions from your trade decisions is a problem that we all had experienced. How do you deal with it? Personally, the only technique I find having some practical usefulness is using cognitive defusion techniques.

I would like to hear what techniques others are using.

I've never heard about this technique... Could you, please, tell me more about it? I often have problems with trading on forex because of emotions.

My name is Lenny Williams and I am a psychologist specialized in motivation, emotion and attitudes with a variety of experience in coaching clients. My previous experiences include guiding poker players in improving their mental game. Since of the similarities between poker and trading regarding dealing with variance, uncertainty and the important role that mental game has in performing I think I can be of value for traders as well. For now I would like to gain experience in helping traders improve their mindset and achieve their goals

I am curious if there would be interest for free trial sessions. I would be able to gain experience and you guys might learn a thing or two as well.

I will be able to guide and offer solutions in the area of my specialisation:

Goal setting
Solving confidence issues
Overconfidence and loss of confidence
Controlling Emotions Fear (losing money, missing out possibilities)
Anger (Mistakes, losing money, revengetrading)
Impatience
Greed
Improving discipline

In order to be able to offer solutions we will first identify the cause of the issues in the area that you want to improve. Therefore you will have to fill in a questionnaire before the session. In the next step we will create a step-by-step strategy to fix your mindset.

Did you ever trade at least 100 trades?

Fear and frustration of losing money is one of the strongest emotions. I had experienced it during the early period of my trading career. But later I'd realized that being able to lose is one of the most important conditions to success. I hope you will be of help to traders who have such difficulties.

People win, it makes them feel good, and if they lose, they get very nervous. It seems logical.
No, there are some traders that, for them, the reverse is true. Some traders feel bad when they exit a profitable position. There is no rule saying that you should feel a certain way. It's different for every person. Their experience, etc. What you hear in the books and from psychology guru are just academical nonsense. That's why I always ask people these questions:

1. Did you ever trade?
2. Did you ever make 100 trades with real account?

Again, it will not help others, because everybody is different. For some traders, learning to accept loses is the worst thing they can have. 99% of common knowledge about psychology is nonsense for trading. If you don't know a person face to face and their past, you cannot help them. Especially when you don't have any trading track record.

Winning with your edge and plan gives confidence, but winning without a trading plan and your own edge gives you false inflated ego. Which, after it bursts, it's devastating. Not every winning trade gives you confidence. If I say "I'm winning" then the next thing the market will give great show that I can be wrong in a similar situation.

Those statements are purely academical and without proper context are BS. That's why in 95% situation you cannot discuss inner game without charts and without specific trade that were made at specific time. If somebody wants to teach you "trading psychology" ask them "are you even trade bro?".

Imagine baseball coach that never played the game, teaching :)
