Dunno about that - did they really not wonder how they could repay what was due under a NINJA mortgage? Stupid of the banks to offer them, stupid of the public to take them up.

Clinton should be higher - he repealed Glass-Steagall and championed Fannie Mae providing mortgages to ethnic minorities using 'softened' lending criteria to get them onto the housing ladder.

Problem was the amount of lenders outside CRA regs, about a sixth of all sub prime lending was within the program, it's all the players that got on board later and spanked it silly.

Alot of US rascism has surfaced in a disguised form.
 
Nice Link. There were so many individuals who were aware there was an imbalance among housing, credit and income, and had the influence to do something about it (or the duty, e.g. Greenspan), and turned a blind eye. Each had their own reasons but this has reckless greed written all over it. As for the American Consumer, always read the fine print.
