Suggestion

The first post of a newly registered member shouldn't even be public until the admins have read it.

But how am I supposed to spam?

Fancy a pint to see you off?

Of course i would. Just have to make an excuse to get into London.

Let me arrange my days for next week. You fancy a mid-week one
then it wont turn into a mad one as it will be a school night. I can
meet the missus as well as she's in Aldgate so Liverpool Street
could be a good meeting point.

Spam central at the moment here.
These 2 things would just about kill it off....

They been getting away with this for weeks now under different names.

Admins: Finger-Ar$se and Pull spring to mind but not necessarily in that order.

mods are asleep on the job as usual.
Hi Ged,
I trust that this is a tongue in cheek remark as the mods are all (I think) U.K. based and some spammers hit us at night. By and large, I hope you agree that the mods do a great job of dealing with the majority of this stuff very quickly.

I have linked this thread to one in the private staff forum - so keep the ideas coming! Regarding the specific suggestions made, there are two concerns:
1. Limiting post rate would be frustrating for anyone involved in a 'rapid fire' type thread.
2. Having admin' check posts from newbies is a nice idea but, given the exponential growth of the site, I'm not convinced that it's a practical one. Also, it might deter new members from posting. It's a trade-off. On the one hand we want to do everything possible to make it quick and simple for people to join and contribute to the site while, on the other hand, we want to deter and filter out the spammers.

I suspect the solution needs to be a technological one. One of the mods has suggested that T2W's 'spam catcher' is refined a bit more to block multiple identical posts. I suspect this will be the sort of root we'll go down to help combat this nuisance. In the meantime, keep hitting the red flag 'Report Post' button!
