When people talk about yields, are they referring to the gross redemption yield, or are they referring to the current/running yield?
Yes it's a newbie question...
 
Generally speaking, yield is payment/price - meaning dividend or interest payment divided by the price of the instrument. That's the simple form. Yield to Maturity is the full return measure, all things included.
