Spot gold tick size?

I did a bit of live spot gold spread betting a few years ago and it seemed that the usual tick size was 0.01 (1 cent).
I recently opened a Tradefair Plus demo account and was surprised to find that the tick size was 0.1 (10 cents). After a bit of googling, it seems that this 0.1 tick value is quite common.
My initial thought was that one would only have to increase the stake to compensate but on thinking about it, the change appears to me to significantly move the odds in the spread betting company's favor and effectively eliminate scalping.

Is the 0.1 tick size the new norm?
What are your thoughts about the 0.1 tick size, in terms of risk / reward?
Finally what is the best company for scalping spot gold.

Thanks
