Recommendations - Books & Paper Trading

Hi to all

I am completely new to trading and this website but have now made the commitment to apply myself to learning as much as I can so I can start. Can anyone suggest any good books to start me off and explain, in laymans terms, the basics. My plan is to read everything I can to start, do some paper trading and then do the real stuff.

On the papertrading note can anyone suggest any websites for this.

Before forking out on trading books which, in the main, are quite expensive - I suggest you plough through this web site. These two threads on the 'First Steps' forum should set you off along the right path. Enjoy!

basically suggests opening an account with IB for cheap access to realtime data, and using some of the free charting applications + ninjatrader for simulated order entry.
