Part A

Holyrood officials have decided that "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" must not appear on cards sent by MSP's or staff. They fear that this wording is not "socially inclusive" and may offend other religions. Instead the card will carry the message "Season's Greetings" together with a Gaelic translation.

Prominent Glasgow Moslem leader Mr Bashir Maan said "No sane person would be offended by that. As a Moslem if someone wishes me a Merry Christmas I wish them Merry Christmas back."
Mr Hanzala Malik of the West of Scotland Racial Equality Council added " I see no difficulties writing Merry Christmas on cards. I receive them in the spirit in which they are sent."

Discuss.
