I'm a bit late with this obituary as I found out, very recently, that Stuart Wheeler of IG Index had, sadly, passed away.
I met Stuart in 1982, when his one man office was in the same building as one of my clients. I, literally, knocked on his door and he invited me in. At that time, he was offering spreads on the gold market only. He ran IG Index on his own. As they say, the rest is history.
I got to know him more when we discovered that we were both members of the Clermont Club in Berkeley Square. I liked him, although we had differences of opinions on many fronts, ranging from politics to sports. He was a thoroughly decent man and I'm sure that he is missed by his family and friends. RIP Stuart.
